This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X20-20 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X20-20 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X20-20 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 20mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X20-20 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X20-20 is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 20 mm stroke by up to 20 mm, giving a usable range of 0-20 mm on site. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (79.2 / 59.4 N at 0.7 MPa), with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. As a rule of thumb, plan on roughly 33.9 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, which is about 2.9 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin.
This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X20, which swaps the P for an E and matches the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP was DIN-standard. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and small fixtures. No magnet is fitted on this version (no S code), so no CMSE / DMSE switch can be mounted; order the optional -S magnet if sensing is needed.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X20-20 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X20-20 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×20 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |

| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Holds small electronics or watch-parts in machining jigs where 56.5 N at 0.5 MPa is enough and the 0-20 mm trim lets one cylinder serve several part heights.
The short body, about 50% shorter in mounting length than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, fits dense gantry heads pushing light components off vacuum cups.
Drives small gates or probe plungers on automated test benches at 30-500 mm/s, with the stop screw set precisely for each fixture change.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest force step in the range: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa suits light clamping and part presence in miniature fixtures. If your load needs more, the 16 mm bore gives 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa; if 56.5 N is already ample, stay here to save space and air. The stop screw only shortens the extend stroke - it is not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston can drift on air loss. Mounting uses FA/FB flange or LB foot on the ISO 21287 face, and the rod end is female M3x0.5 with PT ports. For new builds, specify ACEJ12X20 instead.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, air filtered to 40 um, M5x0.8 port, 6 mm rod with female M3x0.5 thread, and a fixed TPU bumper at both ends. The -20 code is a 20 mm adjustment window on the 20 mm stroke.
Order ACEJ12X20, the current ISO 21287 replacement: swap the P for an E and you get the same 12 mm bore, 20 mm stroke and force class in a short-body compact cylinder. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture first, since the old ACP was DIN-standard. If you need position sensing, check that the replacement carries the magnet option for CMSE / DMSE switches.
