This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X200-40SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X200-40SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X200-40SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 200mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X200-40SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X200-40SB is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 200 mm stroke by up to 40 mm on site, giving a usable range of 160-200 mm. This 12 mm bore unit pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N at 0.5 MPa (79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa), running on 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) filtered air at 30-500 mm/s. The 200 mm stroke is non-standard for this bore (max standard is 50 mm), so it is made to order.
Its short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim fixtures and gantries. The -S code on this model means the magnet is fitted, so CMSE / DMSE switches can be mounted for end-of-stroke sensing, and the B code gives a male rod thread. In practice, plan on roughly 34 N (about 3.5 kg) of usable push at 0.5 MPa, which lifts around 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note this model is discontinued: the current drop-in is ACEJ12X200, and you should confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X200-40SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X200-40SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.

|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×200 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The fitted -S magnet lets a CMSE switch confirm rod extension before the pick head moves, ejecting lightweight PCB carriers with the 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa.
The 160-200 mm adjustable window lets one cylinder serve several fixture depths, and the roughly 3.5 kg usable push at 0.5 MPa holds delicate lens housings without marking them.
With about 2.9 kg vertical lift at a 2:1 margin, the 12 mm bore raises small vials or sensor caps inside a machine frame too tight for a full-length profile cylinder.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest force class in the range: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa versus 100.5 N for the 16 mm bore and 157.1 N for the 20 mm bore. If your part weight or clamp force sits near 3 kg, stay at 12 mm; step up to 16 mm when you need double the push. The stop screw only shortens the extend stroke and is not a mid-stroke lock - on air loss the piston still drifts, so add an external stop if position must be held. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and this unit already carries the -S magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches. Order the ACEJ12X200 as the current-production replacement and verify ISO 21287 mounting dimensions.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. It is double acting with a 40 mm adjustable window on a 200 mm stroke (usable 160-200 mm), M5x0.8 ports, male rod thread, PT port thread, 6 mm rod, TPU bumpers both ends, speed 30-500 mm/s, pressure 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), and -20 to +70 C operation. The 200 mm stroke is made to order since the bore 12 max standard stroke is 50 mm.
The compact ISO 21287-class body cuts mounting length by about 50% versus an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it fits slim jigs and gantries. Because this model carries the -S code, the magnet is fitted and CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be clipped on for end-of-stroke detection. The fixed TPU bumpers only decelerate at the ends and never hold a load. This model is discontinued - order ACEJ12X200 as the current drop-in and confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions first.
