This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X25-20B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X25-20B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X25-20B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 25mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X25-20B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke, the ACPJ12X25-20B carries a 12 mm bore and 25 mm stroke trimmed by a 20 mm stop-screw window, so the usable extend range is 5-25 mm. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those rise to 79.2 N and 59.4 N, with a theoretical 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The hard-anodized aluminium body keeps the mounting length roughly half that of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which suits cramped jigs and guarding.
Plan on about 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (roughly 0.6 of the push rating), enough to lift about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The B code gives a male 6 mm rod thread, and the M5x0.8 port depends only on the bore. Note this model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ISO 21287 ACEJ12X25, same bore, stroke and force class - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X25-20B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X25-20B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×25 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
A benchtop staking head on a PCB connector line uses the 5-25 mm trimmed extend range and 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa to seat small pins without overtravel.
The male rod thread (B code) bolts a stop pin that rises 25 mm to locate an aluminium bracket before drilling; the short body fits under the jig plate.
With the optional -S magnet and a DMSE switch, the cylinder confirms a 25 mm slide-latch on an inspection enclosure; this unit without -S runs unlatched cycles only.
At 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa this 12 mm bore covers light clamping and ejecting; step up to the 16 mm bore (100.5 N) for roughly double the force, or down to smaller loads where the 20 mm bore (157.1 N) would be oversized. The stop screw only shortens the extend stroke within the 20 mm window and is not a mid-stroke lock - on air loss the piston still drifts. Mounting uses FA/FB flange or LB foot on the ISO 21287 face; the optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE switches, and this unit has no magnet fitted. For new builds order the ACEJ12X25.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa push is 79.2 N and pull 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. For sizing, count on about 34 N of usable work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) and speed 30-500 mm/s.
The -20 code sets a 20 mm window: a stop screw shortens the 25 mm extend stroke to any point down to 5 mm; it cannot lengthen the stroke and it does not hold a load on air loss. Fixed TPU bumpers decelerate both ends. The ACPJ is discontinued - the current drop-in is the ISO 21287 ACEJ12X25, same bore, stroke and force class; confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
