This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X25-20SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X25-20SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X25-20SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 25mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X25-20SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This discontinued ACPJ12X25-20SB is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: the -20 stop screw trims the 25 mm stroke by up to 20 mm, giving a usable 5-25 mm range set on site. At 0.5 MPa the 12 mm bore pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N, enough for light clamping and sorting heads. The male rod thread (B code) and the fitted -S magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches are built into this code.
The hard-anodized aluminium body follows the ISO 21287 short format, saving roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim fixtures and guarding. For sizing, treat about 34 N (0.6 of the push force) as the practical working load, which corresponds to lifting roughly 3 kg vertically with margin. Production has ended: the current drop-in is ACEJ12X25 in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP series was DIN-standard.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X25-20SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X25-20SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×25 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Ejects small machined pins or stamped parts from a nest, where the 5-25 mm trimmed stroke and 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa clear parts under 3 kg without overshoot.
The fitted -S magnet drives a CMSE or DMSE switch to confirm the gauge has reached its set stop inside a tight inspection fixture.
Holds PCB assemblies or connector housings during a solder or test cycle, using about 34 N of usable force at the male-threaded rod end.
At 12 mm bore this is the lightest ACPJ size: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa versus 100.5 N for a 16 mm bore and 157.1 N for a 20 mm bore, so step up if your clamp needs more than about 34 N of real work. The 25 mm stroke sits inside the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for this bore, so no made-to-order length is involved. The -20 window suits jigs where the final stop position is tuned during commissioning. Note the stop screw is a mechanical end stop only - on air loss the piston still drifts, so it is not a load-holding lock. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the ISO 21287 face, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. Order ACEJ12X25 as the current-production replacement.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. As a rule of thumb plan on about 34 N of real work, which lifts roughly 3 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s.
The -20 code gives a 20 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw shortens the 25 mm extend stroke to any setting from 5 mm up, within the ordered window only - it cannot lengthen the stroke. A fixed TPU bumper pads both ends. The model is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is ACEJ12X25 in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, because the ACP series was DIN-standard.
