This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X25-20 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X25-20 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X25-20 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 25mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X25-20 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke, the ACPJ12X25-20 pairs a 12 mm bore with a 25 mm base stroke and a 20 mm adjustment window, so the stop screw trims the working stroke anywhere in a 5-25 mm range on site. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those figures rise to 79.2 N and 59.4 N, with a theoretical ceiling of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into slim fixtures and guarded assemblies.
In practice, plan on about 34 N (roughly 3.5 kg) of real pushing work at 0.5 MPa, and expect it to lift about 2.9 kg vertically once a 2:1 margin is applied. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries a 6 mm S45C hard-chrome rod with a female M3x0.5 thread, M5x0.8 ports, and fixed TPU bumpers at both ends. Note that this model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is ACEJ12X25, and buyers should confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X25-20 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X25-20 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×25 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The trimmed 5-25 mm stroke and 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa are enough to nudge finished caps or clips off a benchtop mold, and the short body fits where a full-length cylinder cannot.
With the optional -S magnet and CMSE / DMSE switches, the 25 mm stroke confirms a connector or PCB is seated before the next station cycles.
About 34 N of usable force at 0.5 MPa holds small housings or wire harnesses against a stop during a bench test, with the 20 mm window tuned to the part height.
Size by force first: if 56.5 N of push at 0.5 MPa is marginal for your jig, step up to the 16 mm bore (100.5 N push) or the 20 mm bore (157.1 N push) in the same compact family; if the load is lighter, this 12 mm bore keeps the envelope smallest. The 20 mm window means the extend stroke can be set anywhere from 5 to 25 mm with the external stop, but remember the stop is a mechanical end stop only - on air loss the piston still drifts, so it is not a load-holding lock. Mounting is FA/FB flange or LB foot on the standard face; this version has no magnet, so position switches need the optional -S code to enable CMSE / DMSE sensors. This model is discontinued - order ACEJ12X25 as the current replacement and verify the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. For real work, budget about 34 N (around 3.5 kg) of push at 0.5 MPa, and about 2.9 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s.
The -20 code is a 20 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw shortens the 25 mm extend stroke on site, giving a usable range of 5-25 mm. It cannot lengthen the stroke past 25 mm, and the stop is not a mid-stroke lock. Fixed TPU bumpers decelerate at both ends. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X25 (same bore, stroke and force class) - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
