This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X30-20B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X30-20B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X30-20B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 30mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X30-20B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X30-20B is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 30 mm stroke by up to 20 mm, giving a usable range of 10-30 mm on site. It is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X30, which matches the same bore, stroke and force class. Its short ISO 21287 body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and guards where a full-length cylinder will not fit.
At 0.5 MPa this 12 mm bore pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it reaches 79.2 N push and 59.4 N pull, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. As a rule of thumb, plan on roughly 34 N (about 3.4 kgf) of real work at 0.5 MPa, or around 2.9 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin. The male rod thread (B code) is a 6 mm rod with M3x0.5 female thread option removed - order B for the male end. Note the adjuster is a mechanical end stop only: on air loss the piston still drifts, so it never holds a load.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X30-20B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X30-20B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×30 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Trims from 30 mm down to 10 mm to clamp small aluminium brackets on an electronics assembly jig, using the 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa.
The 10-30 mm adjustable window ejects finished parts from shallow dial-plate pockets where a full-length profile cylinder cannot fit.
With the optional -S magnet ordered, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm end positions on a 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa press-fit station.
Size up or down from here: the 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa for heavier clamping, while staying compact; there is no smaller bore in this family. If you need a fixed stroke instead of a trimmed one, the ACP (replaced by ACE) is the related type, and the ACPD double-rod version (replaced by ACEJ / ACE) suits guided or two-sided work. This unit has no magnet fitted - the optional -S code is required before any CMSE / DMSE switch can be used. FA/FB flange and LB foot mounts bolt to the ISO 21287 face. Before swapping in the ACEJ12X30, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions, since the ACP was built to a DIN standard.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -20 code gives a 20 mm adjustment window, so the 30 mm extend stroke can be trimmed anywhere between 10 and 30 mm with the stop screw. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and the port is M5x0.8.
It is a short ISO 21287 compact cylinder with a hard-anodized aluminium body, S45C hard-chrome 6 mm rod and a fixed TPU bumper at both ends - about 50% shorter in mounting length than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the ACEJ12X30 is the current drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, and remember the magnet is only present when the optional -S code is ordered.
