This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X30-20 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X30-20 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X30-20 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 30mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X30-20 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X30-20 is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 30 mm stroke by up to 20 mm, giving a usable range of 10-30 mm. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Its short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim jigs and guards.
Plan on roughly 34 N (about 0.6 of the push force) of real work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, a fixed TPU bumper at each end, and a female M3x0.5 rod thread with M5x0.8 ports. Note that this model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X30, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X30-20 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X30-20 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×30 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Ejects small plastic caps from a 4-cavity desktop mold, where the 10-30 mm adjustable stroke matches shallow part depth and 56.5 N is ample at 0.5 MPa.
Pushes a row of 10 ml vials one station along a pharma benchtop conveyor; the 12 mm body fits inside the 40 mm guard channel.
Holds test-fixture lids closed on an ICT bench, with the stop screw set to 12 mm so the rod never crushes the pogo-pin field.
At 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa this bore 12 unit suits light clamping and positioning; step down is not available below 12 mm, while bore 16 gives 100.5 N push and bore 20 reaches 157.1 N at the same pressure if you need more force. The -20 window lets you set any extend stroke from 10 to 30 mm on site, but the stop is a mechanical end stop only - on air loss the piston drifts, so it is not a load-holding lock. This version has no magnet (the optional -S code adds one for CMSE / DMSE switches) and a female M3x0.5 rod thread; FA flange or LB foot mounts bolt to the standard face. Order the ACEJ12X30 as the current replacement.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa push is 79.2 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, air filtered to 40 um, M5x0.8 ports, female M3x0.5 rod thread, and a fixed TPU bumper at both ends.
AirTAC no longer produces the ACPJ family. The current drop-in is the ACEJ12X30 (swap the P for an E), an ISO 21287 compact adjustable-stroke cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture before swapping, since the ACPJ was built to a DIN-standard footprint.
