This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X35-20B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X35-20B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X35-20B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 35mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X35-20B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X35-20B is a double acting, adjustable-stroke compact cylinder (now discontinued) with a 12 mm bore and 35 mm stroke. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those rise to 79.2 N and 59.4 N, with a theoretical 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -20 code sets a 20 mm adjustment window, so a stop screw trims the extend stroke anywhere in a 15-35 mm range on site. The male rod thread (B code) bolts straight to I/Y knuckles.
Its ISO 21287-class short body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight fixtures, guards and small gantries. Practical sizing: plan on roughly 34 N (about 3 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin) of real work at 0.5 MPa rather than the full rating. Fixed TPU bumpers sit at both ends, the hard-anodized aluminium body carries M5x0.8 ports, and the S45C hard-chrome rod is male-threaded. This model is discontinued; the current drop-in is the ACEJ12X35 - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X35-20B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X35-20B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×35 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Ejecting small stamped terminals from a die where the 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough and the 15-35 mm trimmed stroke matches a shallow die pocket.
Lifting light connector housings of about 3 kg or less vertically on an electronics assembly bench, using the male rod thread with an I/Y knuckle.
Clamping thin aluminium brackets in a machining jig where the short body fits inside the fixture and 34 N of usable clamp force at 0.5 MPa suffices.
Size between bores: a 16 mm bore gives 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa if 56.5 N is marginal, while stepping down is not possible below 12 mm in this family. The stop screw only shortens the extend stroke - it is not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod still drifts if air is lost. FA/FB flanges and LB feet bolt to the standard face. No magnet is fitted on this code; order the -S version if CMSE / DMSE switches are needed. For new builds, specify the ACEJ12X35 instead.
Replacement checklist
Push is 56.5 N and pull 42.4 N at 0.5 MPa; at 0.7 MPa push is 79.2 N and pull 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. It is double acting with a 12 mm bore, 35 mm stroke and a 20 mm adjustment window (usable 15-35 mm), M5x0.8 ports, a 6 mm male-thread rod, 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) operating pressure, 30-500 mm/s speed and fixed TPU bumpers at both ends.
The compact ISO 21287-class body cuts about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it fits cramped jigs and slides. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X35, which matches the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, as the ACP is DIN-standard.
