This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X35-20S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X35-20S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X35-20S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 35mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X35-20S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This compact cylinder is double acting, with air extending and retracting the 6 mm rod, and its -20 code adds a 20 mm adjustment window: a stop screw trims the 35 mm extend stroke on site to any setting from 15 to 35 mm. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit. Note this model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X35 in the same bore, stroke and force class.
In practice, plan for roughly 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (about 0.6 of the rated push), which corresponds to lifting about 1.7 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, fixed TPU bumpers at both ends, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches for end-of-stroke sensing. Operating window is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, air filtered to 40 um. Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture before swapping to the ACEJ.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X35-20S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X35-20S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |

| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×35 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |

| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The fitted -S magnet with a CMSE switch confirms the 15-35 mm trimmed extend stroke before the next pick-and-place cycle, at speeds up to 500 mm/s.
About 34 N of usable clamp force at 0.5 MPa holds lightweight parts during leak or electrical testing, and the stop screw dials the exact clamp position.
The short body, roughly half the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, clears tight guarding while the 56.5 N push slides finished PCBs off a nest.
Size both ways: if 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is marginal, step up to bore 16 for 100.5 N; if the load is under about 34 N of real work, bore 12 is already the smallest in the family. The 35 mm stroke sits inside the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for this bore, so no made-to-order stroke is needed. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the fitted -S magnet lets you add CMSE / DMSE switches. Remember the stop screw only shortens the extend stroke - it is not a mid-stroke lock, and on air loss the piston still drifts. For new designs, order the ACEJ12X35, the current drop-in successor.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa, 79.2 N push and 59.4 N pull; theoretical maximum 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. A practical rule is to size on about 34 N (0.6 of rated push), which lifts roughly 1.7 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s.
The -20 code gives a 20 mm window: an external stop screw shortens the 35 mm extend stroke to any setting between 15 and 35 mm. It is a mechanical end stop only - it never holds a load if air is lost. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X35, a drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP follows the DIN-standard footprint.
