This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X35-20 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X35-20 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X35-20 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 35mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X35-20 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable stroke, the ACPJ12X35-20 uses a 12 mm bore and a 35 mm base stroke that an external stop screw trims by up to 20 mm, giving a usable extend range of 15-35 mm. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those figures rise to 79.2 N and 59.4 N, with a theoretical ceiling of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The hard-anodized aluminium body in the ISO 21287 short format saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight fixtures and guarding.
For sizing, treat roughly 34 N (about 0.6 of the 56.5 N push) as the realistic working force at 0.5 MPa, and expect it to lift about 2.8 kg vertically once you keep a 2:1 margin. The fixed TPU bumper at each end only decelerates the piston; it never locks or holds a load, so the rod will drift if air is lost. This model is discontinued - the current-production drop-in is ACEJ12X35, so confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X35-20 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X35-20 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×35 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 15-35 mm trimmed extend range and 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa suit nudging finished micro-components off a nest into a chute without disturbing adjacent fixtures.
With a body about 50% shorter than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, the 12 mm bore slides inside tight guarding where a full-length cylinder will not fit.
About 34 N of realistic working force at 0.5 MPa is enough to seat vials or caps in diagnostic sample-prep stations, with the stop screw set per recipe.
At 12 mm bore this is the lightest force step in the ACPJ range: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. Step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N, or drop to a direct ACEJ12X35 if you want current production. The stop screw shortens the extend stroke only - it is not a mid-stroke lock, so do not rely on it to hold a load against gravity. This version has no magnet fitted; if you need CMSE or DMSE switch positions, order the -S variant. FA/FB flange and LB foot mounts plus I/Y rod knuckles bolt to the standard face.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -20 code gives a 20 mm adjustment window, so the 35 mm stroke can be trimmed anywhere from 15 mm to 35 mm by the external stop screw. It runs double acting on air filtered to 40 um at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, with a fixed TPU bumper at both ends.
Only if the optional -S magnet is ordered - this version has no magnet, so no CMSE or DMSE switch can be read. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X35, an ISO 21287 cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture before swapping, and check the M5x0.8 port and M3x0.5 female rod thread carry over.
