This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X35-30S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X35-30S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X35-30S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 35mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X35-30S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X35-30S is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 35 mm stroke by up to 30 mm on site, giving a usable range of 5-35 mm. At 0.5 MPa the 12 mm bore pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 79.2 N push. In practice plan for roughly 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin - enough for small clamps, gates and light part transfer.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight fixtures where a full-length body cannot. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, fixed TPU bumpers at both ends, and the -S code means the magnet is fitted, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted directly. Note this model is discontinued: the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X35, same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP series was built to a DIN-standard footprint.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X35-30S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X35-30S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×35 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -30 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 5-35 mm adjustable window lets one 12 mm cylinder eject parts of different heights from a mold nest; 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa handles light sprue and part knock-off.
With the -S magnet fitted, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm full extension on a lab fixture, while the stop screw trims the stroke to match each test sample.
About 2.9 kg of vertical lift capacity at a 2:1 margin suits pressing caps onto small cosmetic or pharmaceutical bottles on a compact packaging line.
Size both ways: if 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is marginal, step up to the 16 mm bore (100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa); if the load is tiny, the same 12 mm bore in a fixed-stroke ACE costs less to commission. The 30 mm window suits stations where one cylinder must serve several part lengths - set the stop screw once per changeover. Remember the stop is a mechanical end stop only: on air loss the piston drifts, so it is not a load-holding brake. FA/FB flange or LB foot mounts bolt to the ISO 21287 face, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. For new designs, order the ACEJ12X35 instead - this ACPJ is discontinued.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -30 code sets a 30 mm adjustment window: a stop screw shortens the 35 mm extend stroke by up to 30 mm, so the working range is 5-35 mm. It shortens the stroke only - it never extends it past 35 mm - and it is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston still drifts if air is lost.
The short ISO 21287-class aluminium body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with M5x0.8 ports and FA/FB flange or LB foot mounting. This model carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches mount directly on the body. The ACPJ series is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X35 in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
