This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X35-40B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X35-40B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X35-40B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 35mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X35-40B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X35-40B is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 35 mm stroke by up to 40 mm, giving a usable range of 0-35 mm on site. At 0.5 MPa the 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa. Because the short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, it slots into slim fixtures, small guarding and tight gantries where a full-length body simply will not fit.
For sizing, treat about 34 N (0.6 x the 56.5 N push) as the realistic working force at 0.5 MPa, which corresponds to lifting roughly 2.8 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The rod end is male thread (the B code), the port is M5x0.8, and a fixed TPU bumper decelerates the piston at each end. Note that no magnet is fitted on this version - the optional -S code is what enables CMSE / DMSE switch sensing. This model is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X35, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X35-40B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X35-40B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×35 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to strip tiny plastic or stamped parts off a small mold or nest, and the 0-35 mm adjustable range lets the operator set the exact eject depth on the machine.
A short-body stop gate for PCB carriers: the trimmed extend stroke sets gate travel precisely, and ordering the -S version adds the magnet so CMSE / DMSE switches confirm gate closed.
With about 34 N of practical working force and a male-thread rod for quick tooling attachment, this bore class suits light sample pressing or vial capping stations inside compact instrument enclosures.
At 12 mm bore this is the lightest force class: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. Step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N push, or down only if you need less than 34 N of usable force. The 40 mm adjustment window suits stations where the final extend position is tuned during commissioning; remember the stop screw shortens the stroke and does not hold a load if air is lost. Mounting uses the FA/FB flange or LB foot family, and the male rod thread (B) pairs with I/Y knuckles. Since the ACPJ12X35-40B is discontinued, order the ACEJ12X35 as the current replacement and verify the ISO 21287 footprint first.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa: 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull. At 0.7 MPa: 79.2 N push and 59.4 N pull. Theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. In practice plan on about 34 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa (0.6 of the rating), which lifts roughly 2.8 kg vertically with a 2:1 safety margin. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and the port is M5x0.8.
The -40 code is a 40 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw shortens the 35 mm extend stroke anywhere within that window, giving a 0-35 mm usable range. The stop is a mechanical end stop only - it never holds a load if air pressure is lost. The ACPJ12X35-40B is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X35 (swap the P for an E), a drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before converting, since the ACP series was built to the DIN standard.
