This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X35-40 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X35-40 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X35-40 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 35mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X35-40 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X35-40 is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 35 mm stroke on site within the 40 mm window, giving a usable range of 0-35 mm. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa. As a rule of thumb, plan on about 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, which is roughly 2.8 kg lifted vertically with a 2:1 margin. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim jigs and fixtures.
This model is discontinued. The current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X35 (swap the P for an E) in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, fixed TPU bumpers at both ends, an M5x0.8 port and a female M3x0.5 rod thread. No magnet is fitted on this version, so position switches cannot be mounted; order the optional -S magnet code if CMSE / DMSE sensing is needed.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X35-40 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X35-40 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×35 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Trims the extend stroke to exactly 0-35 mm via the 40 mm window to push finished micro components off a fixture, with 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa suiting light plastic or stamped parts.
Order the optional -S magnet to add CMSE / DMSE switches for end-position confirmation on a compact electronics test station where a full-length cylinder will not fit.
About 34 N of usable force at 0.5 MPa holds small circuit boards or covers during a screwdriving or gluing step, with the fixed TPU bumper softening end-of-stroke contact.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest force class in the range: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. Step up to the 16 mm bore (100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa) if the load is heavier, or stay here for light clamping and indexing. The adjuster is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - on air loss the piston still drifts, so it is not a load-holding brake. Mounting is FA/FB flange or LB foot; the optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE switches. For new designs, specify the ACEJ12X35 instead.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N. The theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), and speed 30-500 mm/s with air filtered to 40 um.
The -40 code is a 40 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw shortens the 35 mm extend stroke on site, so the usable range is 0-35 mm; it cannot lengthen the stroke past 35 mm. The model is discontinued - the current drop-in is the ACEJ12X35, same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
