This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X40-10B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X40-10B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X40-10B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 40mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X40-10B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke, the ACPJ12X40-10B uses a 12 mm bore and a 40 mm stroke that an external stop screw trims by up to 10 mm, giving a usable range of 30-40 mm. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those rise to 79.2 N and 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The male rod thread (B code) bolts straight to I/Y knuckles, and the M5x0.8 ports suit small pneumatic manifolds.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and guard brackets. As a rule of thumb, plan on roughly 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (about 0.6 of the push rating), which lifts about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note this model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X40, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping from the DIN-standard ACP footprint.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X40-10B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X40-10B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×40 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -10 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to kick light molded caps off a die, and the 30-40 mm trimmed stroke keeps the ejector clear of the tool during close.
A 12 mm bore slide confirms a PCB or connector is seated; with the optional -S magnet, CMSE or DMSE switches report the end positions to the PLC.
About 2.9 kg of vertical lift capability with a 2:1 margin lets the male-thread rod fold lightweight flaps on small cartons at 30-500 mm/s.
At 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, this 12 mm bore suits light clamping and part-presenting; step up to the 16 mm bore (100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa) for roughly double the force, or down only if your load is under about 30 N. The 10 mm adjustment window shortens the extend stroke only - it is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod still drifts on air loss. Male rod thread (B) and FA/LB mounting cover most fixture needs; add the -S code if you later want the optional magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches, since this non-S version carries no magnet. For new builds, order the ACEJ12X40 instead - this ACPJ model is discontinued.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N. The theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with proof pressure of 1.5 MPa (215 psi), and speed runs 30-500 mm/s. The 10 mm adjustment window trims the 40 mm extend stroke to any length from 30 to 40 mm.
It is a short-body compact cylinder with a hard-anodized aluminium body, S45C hard-chrome rod, M5x0.8 ports, a 6 mm male rod thread and fixed TPU bumpers at both ends - about 50% shorter in mounting length than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder. This model is discontinued; the current drop-in is the ACEJ12X40 (same bore, stroke and force class). Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, and order the -S code on the replacement if you need the optional magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches.
