This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X40-10S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X40-10S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X40-10S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 40mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X40-10S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This compact cylinder works double acting: air extends and retracts the 6 mm rod, and a stop screw trims the 40 mm extend stroke anywhere within the ordered 10 mm window, giving a usable 30-40 mm range. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N, rising to 79.2 N at 0.7 MPa. The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim fixtures and guarding where a full-length body cannot. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends.
Note this model is DISCONTINUED; the current-production drop-in is ACEJ12X40, which matches the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP was DIN-standard. Because this unit carries the optional -S magnet, CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be mounted directly on the body. For sizing, treat about 34 N (roughly 0.6 of the push rating) as the practical working force at 0.5 MPa, and expect it to lift about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Operating range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, port M5x0.8, female rod thread M3x0.5.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X40-10S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X40-10S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×40 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -10 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 40 mm stroke with a 10 mm trim window lets the technician dial the push-off travel to 30-40 mm for nudging off-spec cartons, while the fitted magnet drives a CMSE switch to confirm gate position.
With 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa and a 6 mm rod, the cylinder ejects light machined pins or moulded caps from nests where a longer body would not fit beside the fixture.
About 34 N of practical working force at 0.5 MPa is enough to hold 1-2 mm sheet against a stop; the short body mounts inside tight weld-tooling frames.
At 12 mm bore this is the lightest ACPJ force class: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. Step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N, or down is not available since 12 mm is the smallest. The -10 adjuster shortens the extend stroke by up to 10 mm on site; it is a mechanical end stop only, so on air loss the piston still drifts and it must not be relied on to hold a load. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face. If you need position feedback, this -S version already carries the magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches. For new projects, order the ACEJ12X40 instead - this model is discontinued.
Replacement checklist
It is a double acting adjustable-stroke cylinder: push 56.5 N and pull 42.4 N at 0.5 MPa, push 79.2 N and pull 59.4 N at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, air filtered to 40 um, temperature -20 to +70 C. The -10 code gives a 10 mm adjustment window on the 40 mm stroke.
An external stop screw shortens the extend stroke by up to 10 mm, so the usable extend range is 30-40 mm; it cannot lengthen the stroke past 40 mm, and it is an end stop rather than a mid-stroke lock, so the piston still drifts if air is lost. Because this model carries the optional -S magnet, CMSE and DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be clamped directly to the body. The unit is discontinued - the current drop-in is ACEJ12X40, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before ordering.
