This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X40-10 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X40-10 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X40-10 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 40mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X40-10 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X40-10 is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 40 mm stroke by up to 10 mm, giving a usable range of 30-40 mm on site. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Its hard-anodized aluminium body is an ISO 21287 short build that saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and guarding.
Practical sizing: plan on roughly 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (about 0.6 of the rated push), which vertically lifts about 3 kg with a 2:1 margin. The rod end is female M3x0.5 and the port is M5x0.8, fixed TPU bumpers sit at both ends, and speed spans 30-500 mm/s. Note this model is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X40, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping since the ACP was DIN-standard.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X40-10 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X40-10 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×40 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -10 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa and the 30-40 mm trimmed stroke suit clamping small brackets or PCB fixtures on compact machining tables where full-length cylinders will not fit.
With the optional -S magnet and CMSE switches, the 42.4 N pull force ejects or diverts small components from an assembly conveyor lane at up to 500 mm/s.
The short ISO 21287 body and M5x0.8 port drive a small dosing or sample slide in analytical equipment, lifting about 3 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin.
At 12 mm bore this is the lightest ACPJ size: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa versus 100.5 N for the 16 mm bore and 157.1 N for the 20 mm, so step up a bore if your part mass or friction load exceeds about 34 N of working force. The -10 window only shortens the extend stroke within 30-40 mm and acts as an end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston still drifts if air is lost. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the ISO 21287 face, and position sensing needs the optional -S magnet code with CMSE / DMSE switches. This unit is discontinued; order the ACEJ12X40 as the current replacement.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N. The theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with a 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure, air filtered to 40 um, and speed of 30-500 mm/s.
The -10 code is a 10 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw shortens the 40 mm extend stroke to as little as 30 mm. The stop is a mechanical end stop, not a load-holding brake. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the ACEJ12X40 (swap P for E) is the current ISO 21287 drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm its mounting dimensions before swapping.
