This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X40-30S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X40-30S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X40-30S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 40mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X40-30S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This ACPJ12X40-30S is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke, now discontinued. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N of push and 42.4 N of pull at 0.5 MPa (79.2 N and 59.4 N at 0.7 MPa), and the -30 code gives a 30 mm trim window, so the stop screw lets you set any extend stroke from 10 to 40 mm on site. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends and the rod speed runs 30-500 mm/s.
The hard-anodized aluminium body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which makes it easy to tuck into a compact jig or a slim inspection gantry. Because the -S code is on this unit, the magnet is fitted and CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be clamped straight onto the tube. For sizing, treat roughly 34 N (about 0.6 of the push rating) as the practical work force at 0.5 MPa, which corresponds to lifting roughly 3.4 kg vertically at full pressure headroom halved. When you replace it, order the ACEJ12X40 - the current ISO 21287 successor in the same bore, stroke and force class - and confirm the mounting dimensions first, since the ACP was built to a DIN-standard footprint.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X40-30S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X40-30S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×40 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -30 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 10-40 mm trim range lets a machinist dial the ejector stroke to clear a 6 mm finished pin without re-clamping the fixture, using about 56.5 N of push at 0.5 MPa.
With the fitted magnet and a CMSE switch clamped at the retracted end, the PLC confirms the 12 mm bore slide is home before the pick cycle starts.
About 34 N of usable work force at 0.5 MPa is enough to seat small nylon bushings into PCB enclosure bosses, and the stop screw caps the depth repeatably.
Size both ways before you commit: the 16 mm bore in this family pushes 100.5 N at 0.5 MPa if your clamp needs more force, while the same 12 mm bore in a fixed-stroke ACP12X40 suits jobs that never need trimming. Remember the stop screw only shortens the extend stroke and does not lock the piston - on air loss the rod still drifts, so add an external stop if you must hold position. Match FA/FB flange or LB foot mounts to your fixture, keep the optional -S magnet in mind for CMSE / DMSE switch positions, and specify the ACEJ12X40 as the current-production replacement.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those rise to 79.2 N and 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Plan on roughly 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, which is about 3.4 kg of vertical lift with a sensible margin. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), and speed 30-500 mm/s.
The -30 code sets a 30 mm window: an external stop screw shortens the 40 mm extend stroke anywhere down to 10 mm, so the usable range is 10-40 mm. It is a mechanical end stop only - it never holds a load if air is lost. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X40, an ISO 21287 cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, because the ACP was DIN-standard, and note the M5x0.8 port and M3x0.5 female rod thread carry over by bore size.
