This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X40-30 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X40-30 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X40-30 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 40mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X40-30 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: bore 12 mm, stroke 40 mm, and a 30 mm adjustment window, so a stop screw trims the extend stroke anywhere in a 10-40 mm range on site. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N, rising to 79.2 N at 0.7 MPa. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit. Note the discontinued status: the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X40.
Practically, plan on roughly 34 N (about 3.4 kg) of usable push at 0.5 MPa rather than the full 56.5 N rating, and expect it to lift about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, fixed TPU bumpers sit at both ends, and speeds run 30-500 mm/s at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi). This unit has no magnet fitted, so position switches cannot be mounted; order the optional -S magnet code for CMSE / DMSE sensing. Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping to the ACEJ.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X40-30 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X40-30 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×40 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -30 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Clamps brackets or thin sheet parts in electronics assembly jigs, using the 10-40 mm trimmed extend range to match part height without re-plumbing.
Pushes small components off a conveyor lane or actuates a light gate in a tight machine frame where a full-length body cannot fit.
Positions or ejects small cartons and blisters on a packaging line, with the stop screw set so the rod never over-travels into the product.
At 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa this 12 mm bore covers light clamping and part-presenting tasks; step down is not available in this family, while the 16 mm bore doubles the force to 100.5 N if you need headroom. The 30 mm window means the same cylinder serves strokes from 10 to 40 mm, trimming extend travel with the external stop. Remember the stop is a mechanical end stop only: on air loss the piston still drifts, so it is not a mid-stroke lock. Mounting is FA/FB flange or LB foot on the standard face. This model is discontinued; the ACEJ12X40 is the current replacement, so verify ISO 21287 dimensions first.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa push is 79.2 N and pull 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -30 code gives a 30 mm adjustment window, so the 40 mm extend stroke can be trimmed anywhere from 10 to 40 mm with the external stop screw. It runs at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) and 30-500 mm/s. This model is discontinued; the ACEJ12X40 is the current replacement.
It is a short-body compact cylinder with a hard-anodized aluminium body, S45C hard-chrome rod and fixed TPU bumpers at both ends, saving about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face. Sensing needs the optional -S magnet code, which enables CMSE / DMSE switches; this non-S version has no magnet, so no switch can be mounted. As a discontinued model, confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before ordering the ACEJ12X40 replacement.
