The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X40-40SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 40mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X40-40SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X40-40SB is a double acting, adjustable-stroke compact cylinder in the discontinued AirTAC ACPJ range. Its 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -40 code sets a 40 mm adjustment window: a stop screw trims the extend stroke anywhere from 0 to 40 mm on site, so one cylinder covers several jig positions. This model carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be clamped straight onto the body for end-of-stroke sensing.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits cramped fixtures, guarding and pick stations. A hard-anodized aluminium body with an S45C hard-chrome 6 mm rod, fixed TPU bumpers at both ends, M5x0.8 ports and a male rod thread (the B code) round out the build. As a planning figure, budget about 34 N (roughly 3 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin) of real work at 0.5 MPa rather than the full rating. Note that this model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X40, and buyers should confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The trimmed 0-40 mm extend stroke nudges finished clips or connectors off a mold or nest, with 56.5 N of push at 0.5 MPa enough for light free-falling parts.
Because the -S magnet is fitted, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm the rod has reached the trimmed stop before an electrical test or marking cycle starts.
About 34 N of usable clamp force at 0.5 MPa holds circuit boards gently against contacts, and the short body fits inside dense rack pitch where a full-length cylinder cannot.
Size against the load: at 0.5 MPa this bore pushes 56.5 N, so keep continuous work near 34 N. If your part or tooling weighs more, step up to the 16 mm bore (100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa); for lighter, tighter duties the same family starts at 12 mm. The male rod thread (B) pairs with I/Y knuckles, and FA/FB flange or LB foot mounts bolt to the standard face. The -S magnet on this unit accepts CMSE / DMSE switches; without an -S code there is no magnet. The stop screw is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - it is not a mid-stroke lock, and on air loss the piston still drifts. This model is discontinued; order the ACEJ12X40 as the current replacement and verify ISO 21287 mounting dimensions first.
