This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X40-40 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X40-40 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X40-40 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 40mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X40-40 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable stroke, the ACPJ12X40-40 uses a 12 mm bore and a 40 mm base stroke that an external stop screw trims anywhere within the 40 mm window, giving a usable extend range of 0-40 mm. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N, enough for light clamping and positioning in tight fixtures. The hard-anodized aluminium body keeps the mounting length roughly 50% shorter than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim jigs, guards and gantries.
Plan on about 34 N (roughly 3.4 kg of force) of real work at 0.5 MPa rather than the full 56.5 N rating, and expect it to lift about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The rod ends in a female M3x0.5 thread, the port is M5x0.8, and a fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends. Note that this model is discontinued: the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X40, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X40-40 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X40-40 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×40 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Trims the extend stroke down to a few millimetres to clamp small aluminium or plastic workpieces on a drill jig, using about 34 N of usable force at 0.5 MPa.
Lifts roughly 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin, ejecting connector housings from a tray nest where a full-length profile cylinder would not fit.
The 0-40 mm trimmed range lets one operator tune the push-off distance per product variant without swapping cylinders.
Size up or down by force: the 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa while the 12 mm bore here gives 56.5 N, and the 20 mm bore reaches 157.1 N if the load grows. The stop screw only shortens the extend stroke, it never locks the piston, so on air loss the rod can still drift. If you need position sensing, order the -S variant to add the optional magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches; this non-S code carries no magnet. FA/FB flange and LB foot mounts bolt to the standard face. Since the ACPJ is discontinued, spec the ACEJ12X40 as the drop-in successor and verify ISO 21287 dimensions.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -40 code is a 40 mm adjustment window: a stop screw shortens the 40 mm stroke by up to 40 mm, so the extend range is 0-40 mm. The stop is a mechanical end stop only, not a mid-stroke lock, and the rod can drift if air is lost.
It is a short-body compact cylinder whose mounting length is about 50% less than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with a hard-anodized aluminium body, S45C hard-chrome rod, M5x0.8 ports and a fixed TPU bumper at each end. FA/FB flange and LB foot mounts fit the standard face, and the optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE switches. The ACPJ is discontinued; the current drop-in is the ACEJ12X40, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before ordering.
