This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X45-20B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X45-20B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X45-20B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 45mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X45-20B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and adjustable in stroke, this discontinued ACPJ12X45-20B pairs a 12 mm bore with a 45 mm stroke and a 20 mm trim window: an external stop screw shortens the extend stroke on site to anywhere in a 25-45 mm range, so one cylinder serves several jig positions. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical ceiling of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The male rod thread (B code) bolts straight to I/Y knuckles on the ISO 21287 face.
The short ISO 21287 body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits cramped guards and slide fixtures. As a working figure, plan on about 34 N of real push at 0.5 MPa (roughly 0.6 of the rating), which lifts about 1.7 kg vertically - or about 0.9 kg with a 2:1 margin. This model is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is ACEJ12X45, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X45-20B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X45-20B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×45 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 25-45 mm trim range lets one cylinder eject stamped terminals of different widths, with 56.5 N at 0.5 MPa enough for light-gauge strip.
Male rod thread plus an I/Y knuckle grips an angled fixture; about 34 N of usable push holds boards during a bed-of-nails test cycle.
With a 2:1 margin the rod raises about 0.9 kg vertically, matching plastic caps or small blisters at 30-500 mm/s.
At 12 mm bore this is the lightest force step: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. If the load needs more, the 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N at the same pressure. No smaller bore exists in the family, so step down in stroke instead. This unit has no magnet - the optional -S code is what enables CMSE / DMSE switches, so order that variant if position sensing is planned. The stop screw trims the extend stroke only; on air loss the piston still drifts, so it is not a load-holding device. Replacement: ACEJ12X45.
Replacement checklist
Push is 56.5 N and pull 42.4 N at 0.5 MPa; at 0.7 MPa push rises to 79.2 N and pull to 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The bore is 12 mm, stroke 45 mm with a 20 mm adjustment window (usable 25-45 mm), rod 6 mm with male thread, port M5x0.8, speed 30-500 mm/s, pressure 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi).
No - the ACPJ family is discontinued. The current-production replacement is ACEJ12X45, an ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class. Because the ACP is DIN-standard, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. Also note this unit has no magnet; only the -S variant accepts CMSE / DMSE switches.
