This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X45-20S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X45-20S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X45-20S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 45mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X45-20S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and adjustable in stroke, the ACPJ12X45-20S is a discontinued DIN-standard compact cylinder: 12 mm bore, 45 mm stroke and a 20 mm stop-screw window that trims the extend stroke anywhere from 25 to 45 mm on site. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N, rising to 79.2 N at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical ceiling of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Air supply is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), filtered to 40 um, with rod speed of 30-500 mm/s.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim fixtures, guarding and pick-and-place gantries. A rule of thumb: plan for about 34 N (roughly 3 kg lifted vertically with a 2:1 margin) of real work at 0.5 MPa rather than the full 56.5 N rating. The -S code means the magnet is fitted, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be clamped straight to the hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X45 - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACPJ follows a DIN-standard footprint.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X45-20S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X45-20S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×45 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to kick machined bushings or stamped clips off a fixture, and the 25-45 mm adjustable range lets you tune the eject position without re-machining the jig.
With the fitted magnet and CMSE / DMSE switches, a PCB or sensor test fixture can confirm the 12 mm bore ram has reached its trimmed extend position before a probe cycle starts.
About 3 kg of vertical working force at 0.5 MPa suits seating connectors or small bearings into housings, with the TPU bumper decelerating the rod at both ends of the 45 mm stroke.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest ACPJ size: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa versus 100.5 N from the 16 mm bore and 157.1 N from the 20 mm bore, so step up if your tooling or part weight exceeds about 34 N of working force. The 45 mm stroke sits inside the 50 mm standard limit for this bore, and the 20 mm window covers jobs needing a 25-45 mm extend range. FA/FB flange or LB foot mounts bolt to the ISO 21287 face, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches for end-of-stroke sensing. Note the stop screw only shortens the extend stroke - it is not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod can drift if air is lost. For new builds, order the ACEJ12X45 instead; this ACPJ is discontinued.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 79.2 N push and 59.4 N pull, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -20 code gives a 20 mm adjustment window, so the stop screw trims the 45 mm extend stroke down to 25 mm. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), and speed runs 30-500 mm/s.
The short ISO 21287-class aluminium body takes about 50% less mounting length than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with a 6 mm hard-chrome rod on an M3x0.5 female thread and M5x0.8 ports. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends. The ACPJ family is discontinued - the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X45 in the same bore, stroke and force class; confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
