This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X45-20SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X45-20SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X45-20SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 45mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X45-20SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X45-20SB is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: the -20 code gives a 20 mm stop-screw window, so the 45 mm stroke can be trimmed on site anywhere between 25 and 45 mm. It is discontinued, and the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X45 in the same bore, stroke and force class. This unit carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted for end-of-stroke signalling.
With a 12 mm bore it delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. In practice, plan on roughly 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, which corresponds to lifting about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, and a fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends. Air supply is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), filtered to 40 um, with speeds of 30-500 mm/s.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X45-20SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X45-20SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×45 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The trimmed 25-45 mm extend range and 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa clear small stamped clips or terminals off a die face without over-travel.
With the -S magnet fitted, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm full retract on a 45 mm electronics test nest running at 30-500 mm/s.
About 2.9 kg of vertical lift capacity with a 2:1 margin is enough to pull down a small inspection cover or sample holder.
At 56.5 N push (0.5 MPa) this 12 mm bore suits light clamping and positioning; step up to the 16 mm bore (100.5 N push) or the 20 mm bore (157.1 N push) if the load grows. Note that the stop screw only sets the extend position - it is not a mid-stroke lock, so on air loss the piston can still drift. The male rod thread (B code) and PT ports suit external couplings, and FA/LB mounts bolt to the ISO 21287 face. For new builds, order the ACEJ12X45 and confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.
Replacement checklist
Push is 56.5 N and pull 42.4 N at 0.5 MPa; at 0.7 MPa push rises to 79.2 N and pull to 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The bore is 12 mm with a 6 mm male-thread rod, M5x0.8 ports, a 25-45 mm adjustable extend range, 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) operating pressure and 30-500 mm/s speed.
The -20 window lets an external stop screw shorten the 45 mm extend stroke by up to 20 mm, giving 25-45 mm of usable travel; it cannot lengthen the stroke past 45 mm. The ACPJ family is discontinued - the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X45, which matches the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, because the ACP is DIN-standard.
