This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X45-30B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X45-30B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X45-30B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 45mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X45-30B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This compact cylinder is double acting, so air both extends and retracts the 6 mm rod, and its external stop screw trims the 45 mm extend stroke anywhere within the ordered 30 mm window, giving a usable range of 15-45 mm. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into slim jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit. Note: the ACPJ family is discontinued; ACEJ12X45 is the current-production successor in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Practical sizing: plan on roughly 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (about 60% of the rated push), which is around 3 kg of vertical lift with a sensible margin. The fixed TPU bumper at each end decelerates the piston but never locks or holds a load - on air loss the piston still drifts, so add a separate brake if holding matters. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries M5x0.8 ports, runs on 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) filtered air at 30-500 mm/s, and the B code gives a male rod thread. No magnet is fitted on this version; order the -S code if you later need CMSE / DMSE switch sensing. Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping to the ACEJ.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X45-30B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X45-30B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×45 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -30 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa clears lightweight molded caps and clips from shallow cores, and the 15-45 mm adjustable range lets the toolmaker set the exact eject depth without shimming.
The short body fits inside tight vacuum pick heads and camera gantries; with the optional -S magnet ordered, CMSE or DMSE switches report extend and retract positions.
About 3 kg of practical vertical force at 0.5 MPa seats vials, lids and test coupons repeatably, with the stop screw trimming the stroke as fixture plates are changed.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest force class in the range: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. Step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N push or the 20 mm bore for 157.1 N at the same pressure if your part weight or friction load exceeds about 3 kg equivalent. The 45 mm stroke is within the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for this bore, so no made-to-order stroke is needed. The 30 mm adjustment window suits fixtures where the final extend position is tuned on the machine. Mounting is via FA/FB flange or LB foot on the ISO 21287 face. Since ACPJ12X45-30B is discontinued, order ACEJ12X45 and verify the mounting dimensions against the DIN-standard footprint before the swap.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those rise to 79.2 N push and 59.4 N pull, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. For real work, budget about 34 N (roughly 3 kg vertical lift with margin) at 0.5 MPa. It is double acting with a 15-45 mm usable extend stroke, M5x0.8 ports, a male rod thread (B code) and a fixed TPU bumper at both ends.
Order ACEJ12X45, the current-production ISO 21287 successor made by swapping the P for an E. It matches the same 12 mm bore, 45 mm stroke and force class, and its short body keeps the compact mounting length. Because the ACPJ was built to a DIN-standard footprint, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. If you need position sensing, order the -S magnet option so CMSE / DMSE switches can be fitted.
