This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X45-40S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X45-40S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X45-40S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 45mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X45-40S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This compact cylinder works double acting: air drives the rod out and pulls it back, and a stop screw trims the extend stroke anywhere in the 5-45 mm window set by the -40 code. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N, rising to 79.2 N on the extend stroke at 0.7 MPa. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim jigs and guarding where a full-length body cannot. Note that the stop is a mechanical end stop only - on air loss the piston still drifts, so it is not a load-holding lock.
The 12 mm bore delivers a theoretical 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa; as a working rule, plan on roughly 34 N (about 3.4 kgf) of real work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts around 1.7 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. This unit carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be fitted for end-of-stroke sensing. The ACPJ family is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X45 in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP was built to a DIN standard.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X45-40S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X45-40S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×45 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa and a trimmable 5-45 mm extend stroke make this a fit for holding small aluminium brackets during drilling on compact machining fixtures.
With the -S magnet fitted, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm rod position on a 45 mm eject stroke that pushes finished watch or connector parts off a nest.
About 34 N of practical working force at 0.5 MPa presses dowel pins or bushings into plastic housings on an electronics assembly bench.
Size up or down from here: the 16 mm bore gives 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa for heavier clamping, while this 12 mm bore at 56.5 N suits light fixtures and small part handling. If you need position sensing, keep the -S magnet code and pair it with CMSE or DMSE switches; FA/FB flange and LB foot mounts bolt to the standard face. Remember the adjuster only shortens the extend stroke - it never holds a load on air loss. For new builds, order the ACEJ12X45 instead, as this ACPJ model is discontinued.
Replacement checklist
Push is 56.5 N and pull 42.4 N at 0.5 MPa; at 0.7 MPa push rises to 79.2 N and pull to 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. It is double acting with a 40 mm adjustment window on the 45 mm stroke, runs on 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) air filtered to 40 um at 30-500 mm/s, uses an M5x0.8 port and an M3x0.5 female rod thread, and carries the -S magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches. The model is discontinued; the ACEJ12X45 is the current replacement.
An external stop screw shortens the extend stroke anywhere within the ordered 40 mm window, giving a usable range of 5-45 mm; a fixed TPU bumper decelerates the rod at each end. The short-body build saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, and FA/FB flange or LB foot mounts bolt straight to the face. For new designs, confirm ISO 21287 dimensions on the ACEJ12X45 replacement.
