This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X5-10B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X5-10B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X5-10B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 5mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X5-10B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This ACPJ12X5-10B is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 5 mm stroke within the ordered 10 mm window, giving a usable range of 0-5 mm. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into cramped sensor brackets and micro-assembly heads where a full-length body cannot.
Plan on about 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (roughly 0.6 of the push rating), which is about 3 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin - enough for small caps, clips or PCB carriers. The male rod thread (B code) ends in M3x0.5, the port is M5x0.8, and fixed TPU bumpers sit at both ends. Note that no magnet is fitted on this version (no -S code), so CMSE / DMSE switches cannot be used. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X5 - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X5-10B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X5-10B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×5 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -10 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 0-5 mm trimmed stroke and 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa suit ejecting finished watch or electronics sub-components from a locating nest in a compact rotary indexing head.
A 5 mm travel with male M3x0.5 rod thread mounts small inkjet or laser marking heads; the short body fits inside tight gantry guards where longer cylinders cannot.
About 3 kg of vertical work capacity at 0.5 MPa clamps connectors, terminals or plastic caps in fixture nests on semi-automatic bench assembly stations.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest ACPJ size: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. Step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N push, or down is not available - 12 mm is the entry point. The 5 mm stroke is well inside the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for this bore. The adjuster is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only: it shortens travel, never lengthens it, and on air loss the piston still drifts, so do not treat it as a load-holding lock. If you need position feedback, order the -S magnet version; this unit has none. For new designs, specify ACEJ12X5 instead.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa push is 79.2 N and pull 59.4 N. The theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure spans 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure is 1.5 MPa (215 psi), and speed runs 30-500 mm/s on air filtered to 40 um.
The -10 code sets a 10 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw shortens the 5 mm extend stroke on site, so usable travel is 0-5 mm. It is an end stop, not a mid-stroke lock. This ACPJ is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is ACEJ12X5 (same bore, stroke and force class). Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP follows the DIN standard.
