This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X5-10SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X5-10SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X5-10SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 5mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X5-10SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This ACPJ12X5-10SB is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 5 mm stroke within the 10 mm window of the -10 code, so the usable range is 0-5 mm. Air drives the rod in both directions, a fixed TPU bumper decelerates at each end, and the 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (79.2 N / 59.4 N at 0.7 MPa). The -S code on this model adds the optional magnet, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted for end-position sensing.
The hard-anodized aluminium body with an S45C hard-chrome 6 mm rod saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which makes it a fit for tight slide plates and micro feeding stations. At 0.5 MPa the push force works out to roughly 5.8 kgf, so plan on about 3 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin. Note that this model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X5, and you should confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X5-10SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X5-10SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×5 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -10 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
A 5 mm stroke with 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa suits light marking or embossing on small electronic connector housings where the 0-5 mm adjustable range trims depth per die.
With the -S magnet fitted, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm rod position as the cylinder nudges rejected vials off a pharmaceutical inspection lane.
The short body, about 50% shorter than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, clamps PCB test coupons inside a cramped jig where a full-length body cannot fit.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest force class in the family: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. If your load needs more, the 16 mm bore gives 100.5 N and the 20 mm bore 157.1 N at the same pressure. The male rod thread (B code) with M3x0.5 female option and the FA/FB flange or LB foot mounting let it bolt into standard fixtures, and the fitted -S magnet pairs with CMSE / DMSE switches. The stop screw only shortens the extend stroke within the 10 mm window; it is not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston still drifts if air is lost. Order the ACEJ12X5 as the current replacement.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those rise to 79.2 N and 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 12 mm bore has a 6 mm rod, an M5x0.8 port, PT thread, a 0-5 mm usable stroke inside the 10 mm adjustment window, speed of 30-500 mm/s, and operating pressure 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure.
An external stop screw shortens the extend stroke on site by up to 10 mm, so the 5 mm stroke can be trimmed anywhere from 0 to 5 mm; it cannot lengthen the stroke and it does not hold a load if air is lost. The ACPJ family is discontinued, so order the ACEJ12X5, the current ISO 21287 drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class, and confirm its mounting dimensions before the swap.
