This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X5-10 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X5-10 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X5-10 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 5mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X5-10 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This compact cylinder is double acting, with air extending and retracting the 6 mm rod, and its -10 code adds a 10 mm stop-screw window that trims the 5 mm extend stroke anywhere between 0 and 5 mm on site. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N, rising to 79.2 N and 59.4 N at 0.7 MPa. The hard-anodized aluminium body keeps the mounting length roughly 50% shorter than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim fixtures and guarding where a full-length body will not fit.
Practical sizing: treat about 34 N (roughly 0.6 of the push figure) as the usable working force at 0.5 MPa, which corresponds to lifting about 3 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin once halved. The fixed TPU bumper at each end only decelerates the piston; it never locks a load, and on air loss the piston still drifts. Note that this model is discontinued - the current-production drop-in is the ISO 21287 ACEJ12X5, so confirm mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X5-10 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X5-10 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×5 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -10 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
A 5 mm nudge with about 34 N of usable force at 0.5 MPa clears small machined or molded parts off a fixture without disturbing neighbors on a crowded plate.
The stop screw lets a lab set the exact clamp position between 0 and 5 mm for repeatable holding of small electronic assemblies during inspection.
Short-travel shifting of lightweight components on a miniature conveyor lane, where the short body fits under guarding that blocks longer cylinders.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest force class in the range: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. If your load needs more, step up to the 16 mm bore (100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa) or the 20 mm bore (157.1 N). For lighter pick-and-place work in tight spaces, this size is usually enough. The stop screw shortens the extend stroke only - it is not a mid-stroke lock, so do not rely on it to hold a load against gravity. Mounting is via FA/FB flange or LB foot on the ISO 21287 face, and position sensing requires the optional -S magnet code with CMSE / DMSE switches. Since the ACPJ is discontinued, order the ACEJ12X5 as the current replacement and verify the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions first.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -10 code gives a 10 mm adjustment window: a stop screw trims the 5 mm extend stroke down to anywhere between 0 and 5 mm. It cannot lengthen the stroke past 5 mm, and the stop is not a load-holding brake. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) and speed is 30-500 mm/s.
The hard-anodized aluminium body is an ISO 21287 short build, saving about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with M5x0.8 ports and an M3x0.5 female rod thread. Position switches (CMSE / DMSE) work only when the optional -S magnet is ordered - this model has no S code, so no magnet is fitted and no sensor can be mounted. The model is discontinued; the current drop-in is the ACEJ12X5, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
