This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X50-20B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X50-20B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X50-20B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 50mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X50-20B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This discontinued ACPJ12X50-20B is a double acting compact cylinder with a 12 mm bore and 50 mm stroke, and its -20 code adds a 20 mm adjustment window: a stop screw trims the extend stroke on site anywhere from 30 mm to 50 mm. Air pressure drives the rod out at 56.5 N and pulls it back at 42.4 N at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N on the extend side at 0.7 MPa. Its short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim fixtures a full-length body cannot reach.
For sizing, plan on about 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (roughly 60% of the rated push), which corresponds to lifting about 3 kg vertically - halve that to around 1.7 kg if you want a 2:1 margin on a pick-and-place part. The male rod thread (B code) bolts directly to your tooling, the fixed TPU bumper decelerates at both ends, and the optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE switches. Note this model is no longer produced: the current drop-in is the ACEJ12X50, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X50-20B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X50-20B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×50 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to strip small plastic or stamped parts off a locating pin, and the 30-50 mm adjustable window lets one cylinder serve several jig variants.
With the short body tucked behind a guard panel, the male rod thread drives a latch arm; add the -S magnet and a DMSE switch to confirm the gate is closed.
The 12 mm bore fits narrow deck spacing, and the 50 mm stroke moves sample trays between stations at 30-500 mm/s with the TPU bumper softening each end.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest force class in the range: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. Step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N or the 20 mm bore for 157.1 N at the same pressure if your load needs more headroom. The adjuster is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - it does not lock the piston mid-stroke, so on air loss the rod still drifts; use a separate valve or lock for load holding. Mounting options are FA/FB flange and LB foot, and the optional -S magnet is required if you want CMSE / DMSE switch feedback. Order the ACEJ12X50 instead, since this ACPJ version is discontinued.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N. The theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. In practice, budget about 34 N (roughly 60% of the push rating) for real work, which is about 3 kg of vertical lift - or around 1.7 kg with a 2:1 safety margin.
The -20 code gives a 20 mm window: an external stop screw shortens the 50 mm extend stroke to any setting between 30 and 50 mm. It is an end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston still drifts if air is lost. This ACPJ is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X50 (same bore, stroke and force class) - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP series was DIN-standard.
