This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X50-20S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X50-20S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X50-20S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 50mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X50-20S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable stroke, the ACPJ12X50-20S carries a 12 mm bore and 50 mm stroke, and its -20 code gives a 20 mm adjustment window: a stop screw trims the extend stroke on site, so the usable range is 30-50 mm. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 79.2 N / 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it fits tight jigs and guard spaces.
Plan on roughly 34 N (about 0.6 of the push force) of real work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The hard-anodized aluminium body pairs with an S45C hard-chrome rod, fixed TPU bumpers sit at both ends, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. Note that this model is discontinued: the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X50, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X50-20S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X50-20S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×50 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 30-50 mm trimmed extend stroke nudges a finished connector or pin off a fixture; 56.5 N at 0.5 MPa is enough for parts under about 2.9 kg lifted vertically.
With the fitted -S magnet, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm end-of-stroke on a PCB or sensor test bench, and the stop screw dials the exact probe travel.
About 34 N of usable clamping force at 0.5 MPa holds small brackets or covers during a screwdriving step, inside a body roughly half the length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder.
Size both ways: if 56.5 N at 0.5 MPa is marginal, step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N; if the load is lighter, the same 12 mm bore in a fixed-stroke ACP may be enough. The stop screw only shortens the extend stroke within the 20 mm window and does not lock the piston - on air loss the rod still drifts, so add a separate brake if you must hold a load. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the fitted -S magnet lets you add CMSE / DMSE switches. Order ACEJ12X50 as the current drop-in.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa, 79.2 N push and 59.4 N pull; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. For sizing, count on about 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, air filtered to 40 um, temperature -20 to +70 C.
The -20 code is a 20 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw shortens the 50 mm extend stroke on site, giving a usable range of 30-50 mm. It is a mechanical end stop only - it never holds a load if air is lost. This ACPJ is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X50, a drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP follows the older DIN-standard footprint.
