This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X50-40B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X50-40B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X50-40B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 50mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X50-40B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X50-40B is a double acting, adjustable-stroke compact cylinder in the 12 mm bore class, delivering 56.5 N of push and 42.4 N of pull at 0.5 MPa (79.2 N / 59.4 N at 0.7 MPa). Its hard-anodized aluminium body with an S45C hard-chrome rod saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it fits slim jigs, small guarding frames and tight gantry heads. The male rod thread (B code) bolts straight to I/Y knuckles on the ISO 21287 face.
The -40 code sets a 40 mm adjustment window: a stop screw trims the 50 mm extend stroke down to as little as 10 mm on site, so one cylinder covers several fixture positions. Note that the stop is a mechanical end stop only - on air loss the piston still drifts, so it never holds a load. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X50, and buyers should confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. As a rule of thumb, plan for about 34 N (roughly 3 kg vertical) of real work at 0.5 MPa rather than the full 56.5 N rating.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X50-40B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X50-40B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×50 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa seats small connectors and clips on electronics assemblies, with the 40 mm window letting one unit serve several fixture depths.
Its short body fits inside tight guarding where a full-length cylinder will not, and the male rod thread picks up a latch lever directly.
The 10-50 mm adjustable extend range ejects vials from a tray nest, and the fixed TPU bumper quiets the return at 30-500 mm/s.
At 12 mm bore you get 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa - enough for light clamping and part presence checks. Step up to the 16 mm bore (100.5 N push) if the load is heavier, or drop to a direct ACEJ12X50 if 12 mm is right. The 50 mm stroke is the maximum standard stroke for this bore, so no made-to-order stroke is needed. The B code gives a male 6 mm rod thread; the port is M5x0.8. No magnet is fitted on this version - order the -S code if you later need CMSE / DMSE switch positions. Replacement: ACEJ12X50 (confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions).
Replacement checklist
Push is 56.5 N and pull 42.4 N at 0.5 MPa; at 0.7 MPa push rises to 79.2 N and pull to 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, fluid air filtered to 40 um, port M5x0.8, rod 6 mm with male thread.
The -40 code is a 40 mm window: an external stop screw shortens the 50 mm extend stroke to any setting from 10 to 50 mm. It is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod can still drift if air is lost. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the ACEJ12X50 is the current drop-in successor in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
