This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X50-40S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X50-40S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X50-40S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 50mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X50-40S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X50-40S is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 50 mm stroke by up to 40 mm, giving a usable range of 10-50 mm. At 0.5 MPa the 12 mm bore pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 79.2 N push. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit.
Because the -S code is ordered, the magnet is fitted and CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted directly on the hard-anodized aluminium body. Plan for roughly 34 N (about 3.4 kg) of real work at 0.5 MPa, or lift about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note this model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X50, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping from the DIN-standard ACP footprint.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X50-40S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X50-40S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×50 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to strip small aluminium or brass chips and parts off a CNC jig, with the stop screw set to a 10-20 mm extend so the ejector clears only what it must.
With the fitted -S magnet and a CMSE switch, a packaging line PLC confirms the 12 mm bore has reached the trimmed extend position before the next carton is released.
About 34 N of usable force at 0.5 MPa seats small plastic bushings in electronics assemblies, and the 10-50 mm adjustable range lets one cylinder serve several part heights.
For light clamping and positioning, this 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa; step down is not available in this family, while the 16 mm bore gives 100.5 N if more force is needed. The 40 mm window suits jobs where the final extend position is set on site rather than at ordering. The female M3x0.5 rod thread takes I/Y knuckles from the ISO 21287 mounting family, and FA flange or LB foot mounts bolt straight on. The fitted -S magnet works with CMSE / DMSE switches. Order the ACEJ12X50 as the current replacement and verify mounting dimensions against your fixture.
Replacement checklist
Push is 56.5 N and pull 42.4 N at 0.5 MPa; at 0.7 MPa push is 79.2 N and pull 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. It is double acting with a 40 mm adjustment window on the 50 mm stroke (usable 10-50 mm), M5x0.8 ports, a 6 mm rod with female M3x0.5 thread, operating pressure 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s and a fixed TPU bumper at both ends.
Order the ACEJ12X50, the current-production ISO 21287 successor: swap the P for an E and you get the same 12 mm bore, 50 mm stroke and force class in a matching short body. Because the ACP is DIN-standard, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture before swapping. The ACEJ also accepts the -S magnet code for CMSE / DMSE switches.
