This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X50-40 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X50-40 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X50-40 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 50mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X50-40 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X50-40 is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 50 mm stroke by up to 40 mm, giving a usable range of 10-50 mm. At 0.5 MPa the 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa. Its short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it fits where a full-length body cannot.
In practice, plan on roughly 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (about 60% of the rated push), which lifts about 3 kg vertically - or about 1.5 kg with a 2:1 margin. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, fixed TPU bumpers at both ends, and a female M3x0.5 rod thread with M5x0.8 ports. This model is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X50 (swap the P for an E), so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X50-40 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X50-40 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×50 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
A 10-50 mm adjustable push ejects machined pins or plastic caps off a jig plate, with 56.5 N at 0.5 MPa enough for parts under about 3 kg of resistance.
The short body, roughly 50% shorter than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, clamps circuit boards or brackets inside cramped test fixtures where a full-length body will not fit.
Trims the extend stroke to a 10 mm minimum for lowering small components onto a conveyor stop; the fixed TPU bumper softens contact at both ends.
Size both ways: if 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is marginal, step up to the 16 mm bore (100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa); if the load is a few newtons, the same 12 mm bore in a shorter fixed-stroke ACP may be enough. Note the stop screw only shortens the extend stroke and is not a mid-stroke lock - on air loss the piston still drifts, so add a separate clamp for load holding. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the ISO 21287 face. If you need CMSE or DMSE switches, order the optional -S magnet version; this non-S code has no magnet fitted. Replacement: ACEJ12X50.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa: 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull. At 0.7 MPa: 79.2 N push and 59.4 N pull. Theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -40 code is a 40 mm adjustment window: a stop screw shortens the 50 mm stroke by up to 40 mm, so the extend stroke can be set anywhere from 10 to 50 mm. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, with fixed TPU bumpers at both ends.
No - the ACPJ12X50-40 is discontinued. The current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X50 (swap the P for an E), an ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class. Because the ACP is DIN-standard, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. Also note the magnet is only fitted when the optional -S code is ordered; without it no CMSE or DMSE switch can be mounted.
