This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X50-50S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X50-50S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X50-50S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 50mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X50-50S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and adjustable, the ACPJ12X50-50S is a discontinued DIN-standard compact cylinder with a 12 mm bore and a 50 mm stroke that a stop screw can trim anywhere in a 0-50 mm window. Air drives the rod out and back, a fixed TPU bumper decelerates each end, and the hard-anodized aluminium body with an S45C hard-chrome 6 mm rod runs at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) and 30-500 mm/s. Push force is 56.5 N and pull 42.4 N at 0.5 MPa.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim fixtures, pick heads and test rigs. Because the -S magnet is fitted, CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clamped straight onto the tube for end-of-stroke signals. For sizing, plan on roughly 34 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa (about 60% of the rating), which lifts around 3.5 kg vertically - halve that to about 1.7 kg for a 2:1 margin. This model is discontinued; the current drop-in is ACEJ12X50, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X50-50S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X50-50S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×50 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -50 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa ejects microplates or vials from a holder, and the fitted magnet signals home via a CMSE switch.
About 34 N of usable force seats pins or bushings in electronics assemblies, with the stroke trimmed to the exact press depth.
A 12 mm bore probe with the -S magnet and DMSE switch confirms part presence on compact pick-and-place heads where length is critical.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest ACPJ size: 56.5 N push / 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, with 79.2 N / 59.4 N available at 0.7 MPa. If your load needs more, step up to the 16 mm bore (100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa) or the 20 mm bore (157.1 N). The stop screw only shortens the extend stroke - it is not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod can drift if air is lost. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. Order ACEJ12X50 as the current-production replacement.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. In practice plan on about 34 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 1.7 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The 50 mm extend stroke is adjustable down to 0 mm via the stop screw, and the model is discontinued - order ACEJ12X50 instead.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with FA/FB flange or LB foot mounting and an M5x0.8 port. This -S version carries the optional magnet, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches mount directly on the tube. A fixed TPU bumper decelerates both ends but does not hold a load; confirm ISO 21287 dimensions before switching to the ACEJ12X50 replacement.
