This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X50-50 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X50-50 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X50-50 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 50mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X50-50 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable stroke: air powers both the extend and retract strokes, and an external stop screw trims the 50 mm extend stroke anywhere within the ordered 50 mm window, giving a usable range of 0-50 mm. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (rising to 79.2 N / 59.4 N at 0.7 MPa), so in practice plan on roughly 33.9 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, which is about 2.9 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends, and speed runs 30-500 mm/s.
The hard-anodized aluminium body follows the ISO 21287 short format, saving about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight fixtures and guarding where a full-length body cannot. Note that this model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X50 (swap the P for an E), same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP was built to a DIN standard. The rod end is female M3x0.5, the port is M5x0.8, and no magnet is fitted unless the optional -S code is ordered.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X50-50 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X50-50 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×50 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -50 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 0-50 mm trim range and 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa suit nudging finished connectors or caps off a 4-cavity micro mold where space behind the tool is minimal.
With the optional -S magnet ordered, CMSE or DMSE switches give end-of-stroke signals on SMT transfer heads; the short body fits between conveyor frames.
About 2.9 kg of practical vertical lift at a 2:1 margin makes this bore a fit for pressing microplate seals or lidding small sample trays in diagnostic equipment.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest force class in the range: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. If your load needs more, step up to the 16 mm bore (100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa) or the 20 mm bore (157.1 N). Keep in mind the stop screw only shortens the extend stroke and does not hold a load - on air loss the piston still drifts, so add a separate clamp or brake where position must be kept. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face. This unit is discontinued; order the ACEJ12X50 as the current equivalent and verify mounting dimensions first.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa push rises to 79.2 N and pull to 59.4 N. The theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with proof pressure of 1.5 MPa (215 psi), and speed spans 30-500 mm/s.
The hard-anodized aluminium body follows the ISO 21287 short format, cutting mounting length by about 50% versus an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with a fixed TPU bumper at each end and FA/FB flange or LB foot options. The ACPJ family is discontinued - the ACEJ12X50 is the current drop-in with the same bore, stroke and force class; confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
