This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X60-20B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X60-20B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X60-20B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 60mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X60-20B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This double acting compact cylinder trims its extend stroke on site: the -20 code gives a 20 mm adjustment window, so the 60 mm stroke can be shortened anywhere down to 40 mm with an external stop screw. Push force is 56.5 N at 0.5 MPa (79.2 N at 0.7 MPa), and the theoretical ceiling is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 60 mm stroke is longer than the 50 mm standard limit for a 12 mm bore, so it is a made-to-order build. Note this model is discontinued; the current-production successor is ACEJ12X60, and buyers should confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping since the ACP is DIN-standard.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into slim fixtures, small guarding frames and tight gantry axes. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends, the hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome 6 mm rod, and the rod end is male thread (the B code) at M3x0.5 with M5x0.8 ports. No magnet is fitted here: the optional -S code is what enables CMSE / DMSE switches. As a rule of thumb, plan on roughly 34 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X60-20B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X60-20B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×60 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Ejecting small formed terminals or connector pins from a compact bench die, where the 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough and the 40-60 mm trim lets you tune the ejection travel without repositioning the die.
Opening and closing a small dosing gate on a powder or pellet mini-feeder, with the optional -S magnet driving CMSE / DMSE switches to confirm gate open and closed positions.
Clamping a circuit board into an in-circuit test nest inside a tight gantry head, where the short body - roughly half the length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder - is the only way to fit the axis.
Size both ways: if 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is marginal, step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N; if the load is under about 34 N, the 12 mm bore already carries a comfortable margin. Remember the stop screw only shortens the extend stroke within the 40-60 mm window and is not a mid-stroke lock - on air loss the piston still drifts, so do not treat it as a load-holding brake. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and ordering the -S version adds the magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches. For new designs, specify the ACEJ12X60 instead, as this ACPJ is discontinued.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa push is 79.2 N and pull 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 12 mm bore has a 6 mm rod with M3x0.5 male thread (B code) and M5x0.8 ports, PT body threads. Operating range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, air filtered to 40 um. The 60 mm stroke is a made-to-order length above the 50 mm standard for this bore, trimmed by a 20 mm adjustment window.
An external stop screw shortens the extend stroke by up to 20 mm, giving a usable 40-60 mm range; it cannot lengthen the stroke past the ordered 60 mm. It is a mechanical end stop only - the piston still drifts if air is lost. Both ends carry a fixed TPU bumper. This ACPJ is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X60 (same bore, stroke and force class), so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before ordering the swap.
