This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X60-20SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X60-20SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X60-20SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 60mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X60-20SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and adjustable in stroke, the ACPJ12X60-20SB is a discontinued DIN-standard compact cylinder with a 12 mm bore and a 60 mm made-to-order stroke (the standard maximum for this bore is 50 mm). Its -20 code gives a 20 mm adjustment window: a stop screw trims the extend stroke on site anywhere in a 40-60 mm range, so one cylinder covers several fixture positions. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 79.2 N push and 59.4 N pull, with a theoretical 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit.
This model carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clamped straight onto the hard-anodized aluminium body for end-of-stroke signalling. The B code gives a male 6 mm rod with M3x0.5 male thread, and the fixed TPU bumper at both ends simply decelerates the piston at each end of travel. For sizing, treat roughly 34 N (about 0.6 of the 56.5 N push) as the practical working force at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 2.8 kg vertically, or about 1.7 kg with a 2:1 margin. Note that the stop screw is a mechanical end stop only: on air loss the piston still drifts, so it is not a load-holding lock. The current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X60, a drop-in successor in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X60-20SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X60-20SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×60 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to hold PCBs or sensor housings in a soldering or test jig, and the 40-60 mm adjustable window lets one cylinder serve fixtures of slightly different heights.
With the -S magnet fitted, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm gate-open and gate-closed on a small conveyor divert gate, while the 60 mm stroke moves lightweight plastic totes between lanes.
The male M3x0.5 rod thread takes an I-type knuckle to drive a small ejector pin, lifting parts of up to about 1.7 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin on the 56.5 N push force.
Size this bore by force first: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa suits light clamping and small part ejection. If your load needs more, step up to the 16 mm bore (100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa); if 56.5 N is generous, the same stroke in a smaller package is not available below 12 mm, so trim the pressure instead. The 60 mm stroke is a made-to-order length because the standard maximum for bore 12 is 50 mm - order it as shown or confirm lead time. The male M3x0.5 rod thread (B code) suits I or Y rod knuckles on the ISO 21287 face; FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt straight on. The fitted -S magnet pairs with CMSE / DMSE switches. For new builds, specify the ACEJ12X60 instead, as this ACPJ model is discontinued.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. In practice plan for about 34 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa (roughly 0.6 of the rating), which is about 2.8 kg vertical lift, or about 1.7 kg with a 2:1 margin. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and the port is M5x0.8.
The ACPJ family is no longer in production. The current drop-in replacement is the ACEJ12X60, which swaps the P for an E and matches the same 12 mm bore, 60 mm stroke and force class. Because the ACPJ is DIN-standard while the ACE follows ISO 21287, confirm the mounting dimensions before swapping. The ACEJ keeps the same FA/FB flange and LB foot mounting family and the same optional -S magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches.
