This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X60-40S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X60-40S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X60-40S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 60mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X60-40S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke, the ACPJ12X60-40S carries a 12 mm bore and a 60 mm stroke trimmed by a 40 mm external stop screw, giving a usable range of 20-60 mm. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 79.2 N push and 59.4 N pull, with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 60 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into slim fixtures and guarding frames. In practice, plan on about 33.9 N (roughly 3.5 kgf) of real work at 0.5 MPa, and expect it to lift about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The -S magnet is fitted, so CMSE / DMSE switches can be added for end-of-stroke sensing. Note this model is discontinued: the current drop-in is the ACEJ12X60, and buyers should confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X60-40S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X60-40S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×60 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The fitted -S magnet with a CMSE switch confirms the trimmed 20-60 mm extend stroke before the test head engages, while 56.5 N at 0.5 MPa is enough to seat light boards.
A 2:1 margin means about 2.9 kg of vertical lift or pressing capacity at 0.5 MPa - suited to seating small nylon clips and pin headers in electronics assembly.
The 40 mm adjustment window lets a technician trim the extend stroke on site to match fixture height, and the short body fits where an ISO 15552 profile cylinder cannot.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest force class in the family: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. Step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N push, or downsize from a 16 mm unit if 56.5 N covers the job. The stop screw is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - on air loss the piston still drifts, so it is not a load-holding lock. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings plus I/Y rod knuckles bolt to the standard face, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. For new builds, order the ACEJ12X60 instead, the current-production replacement in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa, 79.2 N push and 59.4 N pull; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 40 mm stop screw trims the 60 mm extend stroke down to as little as 20 mm. The 60 mm stroke is above the 50 mm standard maximum for bore 12, so it is made to order. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, with a fixed TPU bumper at both ends.
No - the ACPJ family is discontinued. The current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X60 (swap the P for an E), which matches the same 12 mm bore, 60 mm stroke and force class. Because the ACP is DIN-standard rather than ISO 21287, confirm the mounting dimensions of the ACE against your fixture before swapping. The M5x0.8 port and female M3x0.5 rod thread carry over in the same class.
