About the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X60-40SB
A double acting, adjustable-stroke compact cylinder for tight machine frames, the ACPJ12X60-40SB uses a 12 mm bore to deliver 56.5 N of push and 42.4 N of pull at 0.5 MPa (79.2 N / 59.4 N at 0.7 MPa). The -40 code means a stop screw trims the 60 mm extend stroke by up to 40 mm on site, giving a usable 20-60 mm range. The 60 mm stroke is above the 50 mm standard maximum for bore 12, so it is a made-to-order length. Note: this ACPJ model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X60.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim jigs and guarding where a full-length body cannot. Because the S code is ordered, the magnet is fitted and CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be clamped straight on for end-of-stroke sensing. A practical sizing check: at 0.5 MPa plan on roughly 34 N (about 3.4 kgf) of real work, and expect it to lift about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin.
