This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X60-40 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X60-40 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X60-40 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 60mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X60-40 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and adjustable in stroke, the ACPJ12X60-40 is a DIN-standard compact cylinder with a 12 mm bore, a 60 mm stroke and a 40 mm adjustment window. A stop screw trims the extend stroke on site to any length between 20 and 60 mm, so one unit covers several jig positions. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those rise to 79.2 N and 59.4 N, with a theoretical ceiling of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 60 mm stroke is longer than the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore, so it is a made-to-order item.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which matters inside tight machine frames and slide assemblies. For sizing, plan on roughly 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (about 0.6 of the rated push), which lifts about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The body is hard-anodized aluminium with an S45C hard-chrome rod, fixed TPU bumpers at both ends, a 6 mm rod with M3x0.5 female thread and M5x0.8 ports. This model is discontinued; the current drop-in is the ACEJ12X60, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X60-40 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X60-40 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×60 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to strip light plastic or stamped parts off a locating pin, and the 20-60 mm adjustable range lets one cylinder serve several fixture variants.
With about 34 N of usable work force at 0.5 MPa, the 12 mm bore suits low-force pressing of terminals and small inserts where a larger cylinder would over-power the part.
The rod lifts about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin, so it raises small guards or covers on test rigs; the fixed TPU bumpers soften the ends of travel.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest force class in the range: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. Step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N push, or down is not available since 12 mm is the entry size. The 40 mm window means the extend stroke can be set anywhere from 20 to 60 mm; remember the stop screw is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod still drifts if air is lost. No magnet is fitted on this version, so position switches cannot be mounted; order the -S code if you need CMSE / DMSE sensing. FA/FB flange and LB foot mounts bolt to the standard face. This model is discontinued and made to order; the ACEJ12X60 is the current-production replacement.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -40 code gives a 40 mm adjustment window, so the extend stroke is trimmed by a stop screw anywhere between 20 and 60 mm. The 60 mm stroke is non-standard for this bore (standard maximum is 50 mm), so it is made to order. Speed range is 30-500 mm/s and operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi).
No. This version has no -S code, so no magnet is fitted and no CMSE / DMSE switch can be used; the optional -S magnet is what enables sensing. The model itself is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X60 in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACPJ follows the DIN-standard compact format.
