This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X70-10SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X70-10SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X70-10SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 70mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X70-10SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable stroke: a stop screw trims the 70 mm extend stroke by up to 10 mm, giving a usable range of 60-70 mm. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa. The 70 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight fixtures and guarding. Because the -S magnet is fitted, CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be mounted directly on the hard-anodized aluminium body. Plan on roughly 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note this model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X70.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X70-10SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X70-10SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×70 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -10 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The fitted -S magnet lets a CMSE switch confirm end-of-stroke on a 60-70 mm trimmed push, feeding a PLC interlock before the next pick cycle.
About 34 N of usable force at 0.5 MPa holds small plastic enclosures steady during a screwdriving or glue-dispense step.
The 70 mm stroke with a 10 mm trim window ejects PCBs or sensor modules from a nest, and the 2.9 kg vertical-lift margin covers light carrier plates.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest force class in the family: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa versus 100.5 N for a 16 mm bore and 157.1 N for a 20 mm bore. Step up if your part weight or clamp force needs more headroom. The male rod thread (B code) suits knuckle brackets, and FA flange or LB foot mounts bolt to the standard face. The adjuster is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only, not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod can drift on air loss. Before ordering, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions of the ACEJ12X70 replacement, since this ACP body is DIN-standard.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. It runs on air filtered to 40 um at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C. The rod is 6 mm with a male thread, the port is M5x0.8, and the -10 code gives a 10 mm extend-stroke trim window on the 70 mm stroke.
An external stop screw shortens the extend stroke anywhere within the ordered 10 mm window, so the rod stops between 60 and 70 mm; it cannot lengthen the stroke past 70 mm. The fixed TPU bumper at both ends only decelerates the piston at the ends and never holds a load. This ACPJ is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X70 in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
