This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X70-20B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X70-20B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X70-20B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 70mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X70-20B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X70-20B is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 70 mm stroke by up to 20 mm, giving a usable range of 50-70 mm on site. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (79.2 N / 59.4 N at 0.7 MPa), with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Its 70 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X70 in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Practical sizing: plan on roughly 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (about 60% of the rated push), which lifts about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim jigs and guards. The B code gives a male 6 mm rod with M3x0.5 external thread, the air port is M5x0.8, and a fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends. Note there is no magnet fitted (the -S code is optional); without it no CMSE / DMSE switch can be mounted. Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping to the ACEJ12X70.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X70-20B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X70-20B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×70 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Ejects populated circuit boards from a nest in an in-circuit test rig, where the 50-70 mm adjustable range matches varying board thicknesses and 56.5 N is ample for a 150 g board.
Pushes finished 10 mL vials off a narrow conveyor lane in a pharmaceutical packing cell; the short body fits inside the guard channel beside the belt.
Latches a sliding access gate on a compact packaging machine, using the male M3x0.5 rod thread to bolt a knuckle straight to the swinging arm.
Bore 12 is the smallest in the family; if 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is marginal, step up to bore 16 (100.5 N push) or bore 20 (157.1 N push) in the same compact body style. The stop screw only shortens the extend stroke within the ordered 20 mm window - it is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod still drifts if air is lost. Mount with FA/FB flange or LB foot; add the optional -S code if you need CMSE / DMSE switch positions. Order the ACEJ12X70 as the drop-in successor and verify the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions first.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa, 79.2 N push and 59.4 N pull; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. It is double acting with a 12 mm bore, 70 mm stroke (made to order, above the 50 mm standard max) and a 20 mm adjustment window (usable 50-70 mm). Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, port M5x0.8, rod 6 mm male with M3x0.5 thread.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with a hard-anodized aluminium body, S45C hard-chrome rod and fixed TPU bumpers at both ends. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the ACEJ12X70 is the current drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
