This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X70-20S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X70-20S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X70-20S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 70mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X70-20S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke, the ACPJ12X70-20S carries the optional -S magnet so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted directly on the 12 mm bore body. Air pushes the rod out and pulls it back, and the -20 code gives a 20 mm adjustment window: a stop screw trims the 70 mm stroke down on site, so the usable extend range is 50-70 mm. At 0.5 MPa this bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 79.2 N push and 59.4 N pull, with a theoretical ceiling of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa.
The 70 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for a 12 mm bore, so this unit is made to order. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into slim fixtures, small guarding and compact pick stations. In practice, plan on roughly 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (about 0.6 of the rated push), which lifts about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note this model is discontinued: the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X70, the same bore, stroke and force class, so confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X70-20S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X70-20S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×70 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 50-70 mm adjustable extend stroke with the fitted -S magnet and CMSE switches lets an electronics line confirm end position before a 2-3 kg PCB carrier is nudged off a nest at 30-500 mm/s.
With about 34 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, the 12 mm bore suits pressing M12 sensor pigtails or ribbon-cable contacts in telecom fixture work where the stop screw sets the exact seating depth.
The short body, about 50% shorter in mounting length than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, lifts roughly 2.9 kg vertically with margin - ideal for raising sample trays inside a benchtop diagnostic analyzer.
Size both ways: the 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, while a 16 mm bore steps up to 100.5 N and a 20 mm bore reaches 157.1 N in the same compact family. If your part weight sits near 3 kg, the 12 mm bore with a 2:1 margin is the right call; heavier loads should move up a bore. The adjuster is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - it is not a mid-stroke lock, so on air loss the piston can still drift and the stop must never be treated as a load-holding brake. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. Order the ACEJ12X70 as the current drop-in replacement.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa: 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull. At 0.7 MPa: 79.2 N push and 59.4 N pull. Theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, port M5x0.8, female rod thread M3x0.5, rod 6 mm, fixed TPU bumper at both ends. The 70 mm stroke is a made-to-order size above the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore.
The -20 code means a stop screw shortens the 70 mm extend stroke by up to 20 mm, giving a 50-70 mm working range; it trims the stroke only and never lengthens it past 70 mm. The stop is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston can drift if air is lost. This ACPJ model is discontinued - the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X70, a drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, because the ACP is DIN-standard.
