This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X70-20 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X70-20 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X70-20 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 70mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X70-20 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and adjustable, the ACPJ12X70-20 is a DIN-standard compact cylinder with a 12 mm bore and a 70 mm stroke that a stop screw trims by up to 20 mm, giving a usable extend range of 50-70 mm. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those rise to 79.2 N and 59.4 N, with a theoretical 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 70 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build. Note this model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X70.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit. Plan on roughly 34 N (about 3 kg vertical lift) of real work at 0.5 MPa rather than the full 56.5 N rating. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, fixed TPU bumpers sit at both ends, and the rod end is female M3x0.5 with an M5x0.8 port. No magnet is fitted on this code, so position switches cannot be mounted; order the -S version if CMSE / DMSE sensing is needed.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X70-20 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X70-20 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×70 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 50-70 mm trim range lets a technician set exact clamp travel on a 12 mm bore pressing 56.5 N at 0.5 MPa, enough for lightweight test sockets and go/no-go gauges.
At 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa the rod ejects vials or slides from a compact analysis station, where the short body fits under a benchtop enclosure.
A 3 kg-class vertical press force suits seating dowels or bushings in electronics assembly, with the stop screw dialing in the stroke per part revision.
Size up if 56.5 N at 0.5 MPa is marginal: the 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N push and the 20 mm bore 157.1 N at the same pressure. Size down only if the load is under about 34 N, the practical working figure for this 12 mm bore. Remember the stop screw trims the extend stroke only; it is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod still drifts if air is lost. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face. For new designs, specify the ACEJ12X70 instead and confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -20 code gives a 20 mm adjustment window, so the 70 mm stroke can be shortened to any extend length from 50 to 70 mm with the stop screw. Speed range is 30-500 mm/s, operating pressure 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi). The 70 mm stroke is non-standard for this bore and made to order.
Not on this code: no magnet is fitted, so no switch can be read. The optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current drop-in is the ACEJ12X70 (ISO 21287, same bore, stroke and force class). Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, because the ACP follows the older DIN-standard footprint.
