This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X70-30S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X70-30S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X70-30S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 70mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X70-30S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: an external stop screw trims the 70 mm stroke by up to 30 mm, giving a usable range of 40-70 mm. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 70 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for bore 12, so it is a made-to-order item. Note: this model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X70, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping since the ACP is DIN-standard.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim fixtures and guarding where a full-length body will not fit. Because the -S magnet is fitted, CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be mounted directly on the hard-anodized aluminium body. As a rule of thumb, plan on roughly 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (about 60% of the push rating), which lifts around 1.7 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. A fixed TPU bumper at each end decelerates the piston, and speed spans 30-500 mm/s.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X70-30S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X70-30S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×70 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -30 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The fitted -S magnet lets a CMSE or DMSE switch confirm the 40-70 mm trimmed extend position on a 12 mm bore jig, with 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa enough for light part seating.
The 30 mm stop window lets a lab dial the extend stroke anywhere from 40 to 70 mm without changing hardware, useful when sample heights vary between batches.
The short body, about 50% shorter in mounting length than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, fits inside slim machine guards while pushing up to 79.2 N at 0.7 MPa.
Size both ways: if 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is marginal, step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N; if the load is under about 30 N, the smaller 12 mm fixed-stroke ACP may be simpler. The stop screw only shortens the extend stroke and is not a mid-stroke lock - on air loss the piston still drifts, so do not rely on it to hold a load. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. Order ACEJ12X70 as the current drop-in replacement.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, port M5x0.8, rod 6 mm with female M3x0.5 thread, and the 70 mm stroke is made to order since the bore 12 standard maximum is 50 mm.
An external stop screw shortens the extend stroke by up to 30 mm, so the 70 mm stroke can be set anywhere from 40 to 70 mm; it cannot lengthen the stroke past the ordered value and it does not lock the load on air loss. The ACPJ family is discontinued - order ACEJ12X70, the current-production drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class, and confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
