The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X70-40S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 70mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X70-40S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X70-40S is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the ordered 70 mm stroke by up to 40 mm, giving a usable range of 30-70 mm on site. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Its short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit. Note that the 70 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for bore 12, so this unit is a made-to-order build.
A fixed TPU bumper at each end decelerates the piston, and the optional -S magnet fitted to this model allows CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches for end-position sensing. The hard-anodized aluminium body pairs with an S45C hard-chrome rod and a female M3x0.5 rod thread; ports are M5x0.8. As a rule of thumb, plan on about 34 N (roughly 3 kg vertical lift) of real work at 0.5 MPa rather than the full 56.5 N rating. This ACPJ series is discontinued - the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X70, so confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

With the fitted -S magnet driving a CMSE switch, the 30-70 mm trimmed stroke confirms a small sliding cover or sample tray has reached its end position before the next step.
About 34 N of practical force at 0.5 MPa holds a plastic enclosure or PCB carrier steady during a screwdriving or test cycle, inside a frame too short for a full-length profile cylinder.
Size both ways: if 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is marginal, step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N; if the load is lighter and space is tighter, the same 12 mm bore in a shorter fixed-stroke ACP may suffice. The 40 mm window suits stations where one cylinder must serve varying part heights - set the stop once, and remember it shortens the extend stroke only; it is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston still drifts on air loss. Mount via FA/FB flange or LB foot, and keep the -S magnet if you need CMSE / DMSE switch feedback. For new builds, order the ACEJ12X70 instead - this ACPJ model is discontinued.
