This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X70-50B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X70-50B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X70-50B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 70mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X70-50B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke, the ACPJ12X70-50B uses a 12 mm bore to deliver 56.5 N of push force and 42.4 N of pull force at 0.5 MPa (rising to 79.2 N at 0.7 MPa). Its stop screw trims the 70 mm stroke by up to 50 mm on site, giving a usable extend range of 20-70 mm without changing hardware. The 70 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build.
The hard-anodized aluminium body with an S45C hard-chrome rod keeps the short ISO 21287-class footprint about 50% shorter in mounting length than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into shallow fixtures and guarding. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends, speed runs 30-500 mm/s, and the rod end is male thread (B code) with a PT port. Note the stop is a mechanical end stop only: on air loss the piston still drifts, so it never holds a load. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X70, and buyers should confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. As a sizing rule of thumb, plan on roughly 34 N (about 3 kg lifted vertically with a 2:1 margin) of real work at 0.5 MPa rather than the full 56.5 N rating.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X70-50B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X70-50B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×70 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -50 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Trims eject stroke between 20 and 70 mm to clear thin-walled caps or connectors from shallow cavities, using the 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa for light parts.
The male-thread rod (B code) drives small swing clamps or pushers on PCB fixture plates where the short body fits under low guards.
The adjustable stop screw lets one cylinder serve multiple carton heights on a semi-auto labeling station, with the 42.4 N pull retracting the pin reliably.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest force class in the range: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa versus 100.5 N for a 16 mm bore and 157.1 N for a 20 mm bore, so step up if your part mass or friction load approaches the 34 N practical limit. The 50 mm adjustment window suits stations where one cylinder serves several product lengths between 20 and 70 mm. If you need position feedback, order the -S variant with the optional magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches - this B-code model has no magnet fitted, so no sensor can be mounted. Mounting is FA/FB flange or LB foot. Since the ACPJ is discontinued, specify the ACEJ12X70 as the drop-in successor and confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before ordering.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -50 code gives a 50 mm adjustment window, so the 70 mm extend stroke can be trimmed anywhere from 20 to 70 mm with the external stop screw. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed is 30-500 mm/s, and the 70 mm stroke is a made-to-order length since the bore 12 standard maximum is 50 mm.
The hard-anodized aluminium body follows the short ISO 21287-class format, saving roughly 50% of the mounting length compared with an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, and it carries a fixed TPU bumper at both ends plus FA/FB flange or LB foot mounting. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X70 (same bore, stroke and force class). Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, because the ACP was built to the DIN standard.
