This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X70-50SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X70-50SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X70-50SB

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X70-50SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 70mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X70-50SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X70-50SB

The ACPJ12X70-50SB is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 70 mm stroke by up to 50 mm, giving a usable range of 20-70 mm on site. At 0.5 MPa the 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 70 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard limit for bore 12, so this unit is made to order. Note: this model is discontinued - the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X70.

The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim fixtures where a full-length body cannot. Because the S code is ordered, the magnet is fitted and CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted directly on the hard-anodized aluminium body. The B code gives a male 6 mm rod with M3x0.5 thread. As a sizing rule of thumb, plan on about 34 N (roughly 3 kg) of real vertical work rather than the full 56.5 N rating.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X70-50SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

The ACEJ12X70-50SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.

Where the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X70-50SB Is Used

tune

Multi-length ejection on a small assembly press

One cylinder ejects parts of three different heights from a fixture: the 50 mm window lets the operator trim the extend stroke between 20 and 70 mm without changing cylinders, with 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa enough for light plastic housings.

sensors

Position-verified slide on a compact test rig

With the fitted magnet and a CMSE switch on the hard-anodized body, the PLC confirms the rod has reached the trimmed stop position on every cycle of a bench-top leak-test station running at 30-500 mm/s.

compress

Clamping in a slim electronics jig

The short body, about 50% shorter in mounting length than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, fits inside the narrow wall of a PCB pressing jig, where the male M3x0.5 rod thread takes a knuckle for a swinging clamp pad.

Replacing the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X70-50SB with the ACEJ12X70-50SB

Size both ways before committing: the 16 mm bore pushes 100.5 N at 0.5 MPa if 56.5 N is marginal, while stepping down is not possible because 12 mm is the smallest bore in this family. The 50 mm adjustment window suits stations where one cylinder must serve several product lengths - set the stop once and the extend stroke lands anywhere from 20 to 70 mm. The stop is a mechanical end stop only; on air loss the piston still drifts, so it is not a load-holding lock. FA/FB flanges and LB feet bolt to the standard face, and the male rod thread accepts I/Y knuckles. Order ACEJ12X70 as the current drop-in and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP was built to a DIN standard.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ACEJ12X70-50SB
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X70-50SB FAQ

At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; the theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -50 code means the stop screw shortens the 70 mm extend stroke by up to 50 mm, so the working range is 20-70 mm. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, with a fixed TPU bumper at both ends. The 70 mm stroke is a made-to-order length since bore 12 normally tops out at 50 mm.

The body is a hard-anodized aluminium compact design with an S45C hard-chrome rod and M5x0.8 ports; it saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder. The magnet is carried on this unit because the S code was ordered, so CMSE / DMSE switches can be clipped on - without the -S code there is no magnet. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X70 (same bore, stroke and force class). Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, because the ACP was built to a DIN standard.
