AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X70-50 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X70-50 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 70mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X70-50 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This double acting compact cylinder trims its extend stroke on site: the -50 code gives a 50 mm stop-screw window, so the 70 mm stroke can be shortened anywhere down to 20 mm. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (79.2 N / 59.4 N at 0.7 MPa). Note that the 70 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore, so it is made to order, and the ACPJ family is discontinued - ACEJ12X70 is the current-production replacement.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits slim jigs and guarding frames. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends, and the hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod with a female M3x0.5 thread. As a planning figure, treat about 34 N (roughly 3 kg lifted vertically with margin) as the practical output at 0.5 MPa. No magnet is fitted on this version; the optional -S code adds one for CMSE / DMSE switches.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to strip small stamped clips or pins off a die, and the 20-70 mm adjustable range lets the operator tune the eject travel per tool.
With an M5x0.8 port and a body far shorter than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, this bore fits inside tight analyzer housings that move lightweight sample trays.
The 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa retracts a light flap-tucking lever, and the stop screw sets the exact extend position for each carton size.
At 12 mm bore you are at the bottom of the ACPJ range: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa versus 100.5 N for the 16 mm bore and 157.1 N for the 20 mm bore. Step up if your part weight or clamp force approaches the 34 N practical working band of this size. The stop screw shortens the extend stroke only - it is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod will still drift if air is lost. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE switch position feedback. Before ordering, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions of the ACEJ12X70 replacement against your fixture.
Replacement checklist

An external stop screw shortens the extend stroke anywhere within the ordered 50 mm window - it sets an end position, it does not hold or brake a load mid-stroke, and the rod still drifts on air loss. A fixed TPU bumper decelerates the piston at each end. For switching, the magnet is not fitted on this version; you must order the -S variant to enable CMSE or DMSE reed or solid-state switches. Mounting is via FA/FB flange or LB foot on the standard face, and the ACEJ12X70 replacement should be checked against ISO 21287 dimensions before swapping.
