This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X80-20 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X80-20 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X80-20 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 80mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X80-20 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke, the ACPJ12X80-20 uses a 12 mm bore and an 80 mm stroke that a stop screw trims by up to 20 mm, giving a usable 60-80 mm range. Air filtered to 40 um drives it between 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) at 30-500 mm/s, with a fixed TPU bumper at each end. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; plan on roughly 34 N of real work, which lifts about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin.
The hard-anodized aluminium body with an S45C hard-chrome 6 mm rod saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it fits tight jigs and guarding. Note the 80 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for bore 12, so it is made to order. This model is discontinued; the current drop-in is ACEJ12X80, and buyers should confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. No magnet is fitted, so position switches cannot be used unless the optional -S magnet is ordered.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X80-20 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X80-20 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×80 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 60-80 mm trimmed extend range clamps small aluminium brackets on an electronics assembly fixture, with 56.5 N at 0.5 MPa enough for light hold-down.
Pushes finished connectors off a pick station on a PCB line; the 6 mm rod and short body fit inside the guard where a full-length cylinder cannot.
A stop screw sets the extend depth between 60 and 80 mm on a lab press jig, so one cylinder serves several part heights without re-plumbing.
At 56.5 N push (0.5 MPa) this 12 mm bore suits light clamping and small-part ejection; step up to the 16 mm bore (100.5 N) for roughly double the force or down to the 8 mm class where space is extreme. The stop screw only shortens the extend stroke and drifts on air loss, so it is not a load-holding lock. FA/FB flange or LB foot mounts bolt to the ISO 21287 face. If you need CMSE or DMSE switches, order the -S magnet version. For new projects, specify ACEJ12X80 instead.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N. Theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure, running 30-500 mm/s on air filtered to 40 um.
The -20 code gives a 20 mm window: a stop screw shortens the 80 mm extend stroke to any length down to 60 mm; it cannot extend past 80 mm and it does not hold a load on air loss. The model is discontinued - order ACEJ12X80, the current ISO 21287 drop-in, and confirm its mounting dimensions first. Sensors need the optional -S magnet (CMSE / DMSE switches); this version has none.
